Certainly my favourite album, enough to go for this. I LOVE his vinyl mission statement.
One thing I noticed, when I went to the store on my mobile the prices were all in dollars, and they were identical to the Ł price. Might work out cheaper to try and buy in dollars if possible.

(I happen to be going to the States tomorrow!)

I love his philosophy and its great they're doing the vinyl stuff, but that new Fragile is a bit annoying... They're doing a single pressing and no digital download. Why not just make it a regular LP with regular pressings - you know that you might have to wait until the next pressing run, but its not something which is just going to sell out and end up being sold for exorbitant second hand prices? Just seems to play in to the hands of those out to make a quick buck.

Its reminded me I really need to get a record deck though as I've been starting to buy vinyl again recently.

Good points.

The new discography on the website has got some fun details added into it. Also some hints of things to come, for example they've got the Quake soundtrack listed with the note "we're working on this one" and the Before The Flood soundtrack notes are quite sarcastic!

Grabbed it this morning and listened to it twice. Already decided it's an improvement on Hesitation Marks.

In other good news, Trent has just announced in an interview (something to do with Apple Music) that there will be TWO full new Nine Inch Nails albums/projects in 2017.

Like the new EP - reminds me of Broken/Fixed although not listened to them for ages so might be making that up!

anyone gone for the high res downloads, think they're out today too?

I really like the new EP, definitely a more aggressive edge than recent stuff.

There's an interview with him and Atticus streaming on Apple Music today, not had a listen yet.

Am I missing something or is the NIN store a US-only thing unless you want to pay extortionate levels of shipping? Just added a couple of LPs to the cart and shipping was estimated at $53. I'm sure I've ordered CDs from his stores in the past and shipping has been pretty reasonable.

The new EP has really grown on me over the last couple of weeks. Its like some of their older stuff in that its taken a while to really appreciate it and hear all the layers and sounds. Can't wait to hear what comes next.

Make sure you're using the UK store.

Yeah, the EP is very good & my only complaint is that it is too short & making me thirsty for more!

Track two is very "Hesitation Marks" but the rest are noisy BUT still melodic!

She's Gone Away is catchy as ****. Reminds me of Reptile or The Day the World Went Away, but with more pulse.

It's definitely meant to be a callback to Reptile, as some of its lyrics are included in the MP3 meta tags.

I've been trying to get more into Trent's soundtracks lately, given that I'd sort of ignored them. So far my thoughts are:

The Social Network - pretty accessible and melodic, like it a lot
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - a bit too ambient/droney for my tastes, but the Led Zep cover is phenomenal
Gone Girl - growing on me a lot, falls somewhere between the previous two. Somehow reminds me of playing 1990s adventure games
Patriot's Day - not for me, I think. Again, too ambient.
Before The Flood - not got around to it yet!

He's also got Ken Burn's The Vietnam War coming up later this year.

Seems to me that these are all very clearly an evolution of what began with Ghosts I-IV.
What are everyone else's thoughts? Are they more background music for you or do you actively listen to them? Any particular favourite tracks?

My standouts:
Hand Covers Bruise
In Motion
A Familiar Taste
Pieces Form the Whole
Magnetic

Empty Places
Just Like You
Procedural

I agree about Dragon Tattoo and that Patriot's Day falls a little too far on the ambient side, to me it's just an extension of the work they did with Ghosts.

Before the Flood is quite similar but somehow more accessible. I think it helps that there's contributions from others that flesh the album out a little and stops it from being too 'droney'. Some really nice piano work.

Social Network for me is the best, that stands out for me, I can actively listen to that album rather than just appreciate it as background noise if that makes sense?

As much as I loved the film Gone Girl, having only watched it once I can't recall any song or melody that stood out. I should revisit it.

Nine Inch Nails pt.2 - what Trent did next.

I never bought The Social Network score because, from watching the film, it just seems to be tracks from Ghosts I-IV with a barmy version of In the Hall of the Mountain King thrown in. I'm amazed it was eligible for an Academy Award, hardly any of the material seems to be original.

I do own both GwtDT and Gone Girl soundtracks, which are both excellent scores. Not listened to them in a while, mind.

There are just 2 songs on Social Network which are based on things from Ghosts. The Social Network versions feel considerably more complete.

Ooh, OK. Thank you. I really should just buy it. Even if it's just for completionist's sake.
