He's not silly, this Mr Lucas. To get the 3 extra discs, one is forced to further extend one's wallet for the most expensive set, including Eps I-III which many people won't even want. Let's just hope the separate trilogy sets have sufficient extras to not need to extend one's wallet in this way.

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't buy the prequel films but seems I have to if I want the extras...grrr!

"Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)"

Thank you Fox. This is exactly what I was hoping for. I hope at some point separate releases come too because of the prequel trilogy only Revenge of the Sith is worth owning but really I only care about the original three.

I loved all 6 films so the sage package for me :D. Any info if they include (God I hope so) the theatrical versions of the 3 old films. I'm really annoyed by the cut, in empire strikes back, "bring my shuttle" to the new "prepare the shuttle for my arrival", couse voice don't much, and I hate it. Other than that is all ok with me. It is certain a 3D saga will be released later though...

Amazon UK are pre-ordering it for £70, which isn't bad if you think about it (six films, three bonus discs).

We live in hope that this set will contain all of the major deleted scenes, especially the Wampa attack on Echo Base.

How the hell did Amazon get exclusive rights to this!? This is gonna make them a mint!

Anyway, saga set for me, I don't hate the prequels and would love to see them in HD. Shame we can't expect the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy on blu-ray (not this time around anyway...) but the extra 3 discs should be interesting. Roll on September.

i think they had a one-day exclusive window for pre-orders, as they were claiming they were exclusive yesterday but not today.

Day 1 purchase for the whole set, no doubt.

Any early guesses on region lock or region free?

Yawn, no doubt it'll be released again if 3D blu-ray kicks in. Or when blu-ray is replaced. And the fat cats get fatter...

Yeah, when Blu-ray is replaced by a superior format, I hope they don't bother releasing anything that's already on BD.

I also think it's optimistic to think the two trilogy sets will have any extras. Commentaries hopefully, but when they've gone on about optimising the quality and have included three bonus discs, I can't see them bothering to put much else on the film discs.

Was that sarcasm?

I don't see why everyone is complaining about buying it again, if you don't want to it's really quite simple - don't. But the rest of us are quite happy to have some of our favourite films coming out in high def, now that the Aliens are out, Back to the Futures (though I haven't yet upgraded these) and Star Wars in Sept all I really need is Jurassic Park and I'm set, aside from a few Disneys (Aladdin, Lion King etc)

As for SW, I've only bought them once - the special edition DVDs, so spending the £70 on this set was a no brainer for me. Especially when I found out I could get it from work for £60. £10 per film plus 3 bonus discs? Sold. I know the OT is only gonna be the remastered ones but I can live with that, if(/when) they bow to pressure and re-release the theatrical I'll wait for them to drop in price and pick them up. But hey, if it makes you people happy, go on complaining about them re-releasing SW all you want.

Actually the main issue with that is that it destroys Williams' "Hyperspace" cue completely, one of the best pieces of music in what's probably his greatest soundtrack. It jars me for that reason alone.

It was.

I agree wholeheartedly with your points re: buying it again on a new format too. When they re-release things endlessly on the same format with a couple of new extras they could've included before if they'd wanted to (something Star Wars is indeed guilty of), that's a reason to complain. But on a new, superior format? That's grand. If they leave out some deleted scenes and then re-release it again in two years "now with even more original footage!", that would be a time to complain.

I suppose I've been stung less often by this particular franchise though -- the last (and only, I think) time I bothered to buy it was a VHS box set of the original trilogy; by the time I was finally thinking about getting it on DVD, I was also think about BD and decided to wait.
