Did it say how long he had been in a coma though? It had been at least a month as that was how long the dead had been walking. I'm no expert on gunshots but maybe that would be enough time to get back on your feet?

Very impressive opener. Doesn't do anything new for the Zombie genre but nice to see it done so well on the small-screen. Great FX & solid acting so far.

Reeeally need to get back to the comicbook. Only read the first twelve issues so far....

The shot went clean through his body, and from the looks of it would have collapsed a lung, or very narrowly missed it. Pretty sure he'd have a lot of internal bleeding regardless. Anyway, these things aren't there to be read in to that much so I really need to stop doing it!
However, I would have just liked a longer 'montage' during his coma to show what was going on and how long he was left unattended. Or even if it was just a TV in the background where you could hear a news clip. I know it's just gonna bug me now

But...Roll on Sunday

I haven't read the comic/graphic novel/whatever but maybe it is explained later on? The other dudes say it has been happening for a month, but he might have been in a coma even longer. The bit I had a problem with was, if everyone else was dead, how did he survive on no food or water? A drip only lasts so long.

Also who sculpted his beard for him?

I've read most of the comics and as far as I can remember (I have a useless memory)

and as far as what caused people to turn into zombies

On some of the close-ups you could see the make-up glue where they attached the beard.

28 Days later (not a Zombie flick, I know) is perhaps the most explicit about the "beginning of the end", Shaun of the Dead hints at a virus origin, and the Return of the Living Dead, whilst piggy-backing on NotLD's origins, at least has the Trioxin gas as the source of their plague...

Excellent opener, loved it. My only criticism, as already noted, is that I didn't buy how easily he accepted the situation. Still, brilliant, five-star stuff

Anyone know if the FX showing will be in 5.1? Seems the US broadcast it in basic 2.0 stereo only, which seems an odd artistic choice.

To be honest for most of it, it looked like it just didn't sink in.

What bugged me the most was he walked through both the military camp and his own house and he didn't stop to tool up at all, not even with clothes, until much much later at the police station!

I think a vast majorty here would have at least went through the camp to get as much supplies as possible

He didn't know there was a widespread zombie outbreak though. All he'd seen at that point were a bunch of dead bodies and some groping hands behind a locked door. I think most people in that situation would just get away from the hospital rather than start looking for supplies to ward off a possible threat.

If the main character motivation for Rick is the love for his wife and kid, then of course the first thing he's going to do upon waking is seek them out. Last thing he remembers was almost dying without seeing them, then some vague, foggy memory of his buddy showing up with flowers (mainly to give viewers a time reference for how long he's been under -- long enough for flowers to wilt and dry up completely). Yes, he's confused, but he's not thinking guns; he's thinking family. Makes perfect sense to me that getting to his wife and child above all else is why he stumbles out of the building to find his way home.

None of the 'naughty' versions were. Indeed even the official itunes release is in 2.0

It didn't notice that it wasn't in 5.1 - and I usually would. But I was pretty engrossed in what I was watching so I could easily have missed it.
