I always thought the opening to both 28 Days Later and The Walking Dead were homages to The Day of the Triffids

Indeed they are, the triffids are pretty much the same as zombies in the big scheme to be honest.

Really enjoyed it after it got past the 'haven't I seen this before in 28 days later' part. Then it felt like BBC's Survivors with a budget, then it came into it's own.

Really felt panicky when he was stuck under that tank. Excellent effects / make up and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Very good. Only thing that I found a bit suspect was that he didn't freak out more or didn't ask more questions about what happened to the world.

And entering Atlanta and seeing all the cars going in one direction should have been a clue something was wrong.

excellent starter! only 6 episodes did someone say? are they all 90 minutes?

Great effects and actually felt sorry for a couple of the zombs. Not sure why he put the gun to his head under the tank when the open hatchway was right in front of his face but hopefully its got some petrol in it so we can see some major splatter next week!

Thought this was a fantastic opening episode. The GF spent half the show hiding behind a cushion! I hope this is a sign of things to come from the next five episodes!

he didn't see the hatchway untill he opened his eyes, that's why he didn't kill himself.

This is something that constantly gets brought up on the iMDb messageboard. To be honest, we all have our own scenario and plans to what we would do individually during a zombie apocalypse. None of us know what it's like to wake from a coma, malnourished and in serious need of water in the midst of all this - we have to assume his world has never encountered actual zombies, so your first reaction in his position would be a terrorist attack of some sorts and to get out of the building.
There's a thousand things I'd have done that he didn't. Like that temporary army barrack outside the hospital which would possibly have weapons, health supplies... and tanks!

Nothing really annoyed me to an extreme, but I didn't like how fast his injury seems to be healing though. It looked like a fatal gunshot which needs months of recovery, yet before we know it he's on horse back and looking more fresh in each scene! I'd say by the next episode it's all but gone. But I guess this is a common occurance in most tv...

I agree he should have been asking that guy how it all unfolded though, that was annoying me a little. Even a short flashback scene would have sufficed...

This is a common theme through most zombie fiction, the reason for the outbreak is almost always glossed over. Perhaps zombie fans can accept that it just happened?

None of the great zombie flicks have ever needed an proper explanation or how it all began. Night Of The Living Dead had something about a dodgy satellite but i think thats it. And the old VHS of Dawn Of The Dead had a bit about Three Mile Island as well.
