Planet Of The Apes On Bluray

I am somewhat dismayed to find the Apes saga is arriving on Region A BD so soon.

Why?

This is one of the few titles that I always promised myself would result in me getting a multiregion player.

I simply dont trust Fox at all.

The DVD Times story says there will be the premier of the uncut Conquest on this set but there's no guarantee that Fox will get it reclassifed for the UK so we can see it too.

They messed up bigtime on the Ape Head dvd boxset by not only missing the 5.1 remixes on films 2-5 in the UK but the US set also had the extended version of Battle - for a long time a legendary exclusive on Jap Laserdisc only .

The UK set was basically all the previous releases shoved in a box with the cartoon series extra.

The US set had all new discs for the movies so the UK still has not seen the extended Battle.

So who's to say we wont lose out again?

So do I go for the MR player or do I wait and see if and when the UK release comes out whether the content is identical.

I thought about that.

But I think its safe to assume that Region B BD will be the same discs worldwide- Batman The Movie certainly is.

If they dont release the extended cut in the UK I cant see them doing it on any Region B versions

I'm not sure if the dvd in Oz is the same as the UK one

I'm sure Fox could've released the long awaited full version of Conquest on dvd before now.I think they've been holding out on us.Hopefully there will be a stand alone dvd release as I'm not buying the whole lot again with so much good stuff on the way.

Again? This is the first time these films have been available in High Definition.

I only just bought the remastered R1 DVD set (with 5.1 for all the movies + extended Battle), but I'm vewwy excited at the news of the Blu-ray box.

All that damn dirty apes goodness in HD! And me with a Region A player too!

There is some doubt as to if the Uk version (when it arrives) will have the isolated music score.

That looks so very lovely

Fingers crossed for the UK release. The lack of iso soundtracks would be irritating, but not critical - they've all been released on CD so if anyone's sufficiently keen they could just get those.

Not getting the new Conquest would be some sort of human rights abuse, though.

Had a pleasant surprise today.

In readiness for replacing my Ape Head set with the Bluray set I bought the animated series as it wont be on the Bluray set.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the individual release has been remastered since the Ape Head discs were done.

Now I know why there was a delay.

Not only does each episode come with the option of playing it with a "next episode" trailer at the end ,but the whole series has been restored and remastered to modern perfection.

If you've seen the toons included in the Ape Head set you will know they are extremely tatty- but it didnt seem to be a surprise that Fox would spend money on doing anything with it and they used dreadfully scratched prints with less then perfect sound.

The discs I got today are spotless. No dirt ,dust or marks of any kind on the prints- rather like the Star Trek toons.

Thanks for the recommendation - I've never got around to ordering that, so I'll get on to it now.

How do you find the actual series? From the clips I've seen, it's fairly bizarro (even by Apes standards!) Kind of like those 70s Marvel comics (with mutants led by giant squid and suchlike).

Like Soprano - it's only the first film I like, so if released seperately I'll get it.

No way am I buying all that just for one (admittedly superb) film.

I'm not the biggest fan of the sequels either, I haven't seen then since I was a boy. However I'm looking forward to revisiting them in HD.

I just want the first one too and was hoping they would release it at the same time as the set as warner did with Dirty Harry. It looks like its not going to happen though.

I love all the Apes sequels. Hell, anything with Ricardo Montalban gets a pass from me.

I like the Apes toons .

I believe it is probably one of the earliest examples of a cartoon series with a continuing storyline - and a saturday morning kids series to boot
