The Others - out on R3 dvd January 29th

according to Coolashop the dvd of this Nicole Kidman film will be released next tuesday!

Universe Laser & Video Co Ltd are distributing it and according to them it has a DTS soundtrack on it!

No word on picture but i suspect (though not for sure) that it's widescreen and probably not anamorphically encoded

It's also going for the great price of $70 HK which is about US$9 and in our money under a tenner including postage

here's a link:

Thanks for that.
I have been wanting to see this film, but couldn't be bothered to go to the cinema.

I think this should also be posted in the bargain forum.

Do R3's tend to be Pan & Scam then? I only have one, Battle Royale and that’s in its OAR, but is not anamorphic.

In general i would say most R3 movies tend to be non-anamorphic widescreen. Hardly any are ever anamorphic (with the odd exception such as Shaolin Soccer)

You do get a few P&S R3 dvds and this is due to some film companies (such as Columbia Tri-Star) wanting to protect their money making rights in other countries (particularly region 1)

An example of this would be Time and Tide, a HK film whose R3 dvd was P&S but which was anamorphic widescreen in the US and over here in Europe.

The one thing going for the dvd is that it's being distributed by Universe who tend to do non-anamorphic widescreen transfers on their films.

Well, at least i hope that i'm right in this occasion

Just got back from seeing it. Twas alright. I usually enjoy slow films, but there was just something about this that didn't make it very enjoyable.....

My brief synopsis: Oooo, scary>Ahh, it's picking up - wait, no it isn't> Ooo, scary> Ho ho! This is getting goo - oh right > Oooo scary > Bloody hell, never saw that co - finished? Oh well.

To cut down on some speculations. Universe are a company that seems to want to do anamorphic transfer whenever they get the chance to. Driven, Angel Eyes, Series 7, St John's Wort, Taxi 2, Turbulance 2, and on top of that they do try to get a DTS track on these releases (for people that want them). However I'd like them to do a good job on their domestic releases instead of just foreign (to Hong Kong). To date, only shaolin soccer has been anamorphic through them in regards to a hong kong film.

I'd bet anything it's a mistake, there's no way it could just happen that quickly.

By the way Sticker, I went to see The Devil's Backbone, 'kin class.
Anybody know when it's out on DVD??

Yep, I ordered the R3 The Others last night.

Can't seem to find the R1 release date and it's only Ł9 so why not!

If it's not WS then I can always watch it and sell it on to some DVD exchange shop for a likely profit. - Oooh, The Others! That's new, here take Ł12 for it.

After emailing Hivizone (who i usually order R3 dvds from) they emailed me back telling me that Universe told them that the dvd was out tomorrow and that they think the delay is for the region 2 release and not the R3

Having never purchased a R3 could you tell me if the subtitles are automatic on screen or can they be turned off?

Nearly every Western movie released in R3 so far has had removable subs so this should be no different.
