I'm spoilering even the link to something related to the rest of the season. DO NOT LOOK UNLESS YOU WANT SPOILERISING.

Few reveals that are then taken away from us. On the whole though I enjoyed this episode.

I am bugged though and i hope this isn't sloppy writing!

Why did Sayid not understand French when he was listening to the messages with Shannon? if he lived there he must have a (at least) sketchy understanding of the language.

My memory for S1 isn't that good, but even if true its not that hard to follow a bearing by using either the sun and an analogue watch or the stars to determine north. Sayid being ex military could well know these simple techniques as quite possibly would Hunter!Locke. Also Desmond being a sailor would know them.

From the writers who gave you the magical mystery van tour or the superfluous ping-pong game in lieu of consitency of character development or coherent storytelling?

Here's a clip of said writers in action:

Quite a sizeable minority in London and New York who have absolutely no interest in even learning the basics of English. But that's a whole different avenue.

Can someone fill me in on the flashback story? So did Sayid really torture her, or did he just say he did? I noted his denial, then wasn't really sure what twist it took when the guy's wife did her pep talk, and wasn't really concentrating on the parable of the cat and the firecrackers.

Well, he did torture her and she just said she forgives him cos of some moral reason (cant remember exactly what), but yeah, it related to that firecracker/cat story.

What I dont understand is though, why didnt the russian dude just kill sayeed initally? If he works with the others (not dharma) why did he injure him only? Surely he must've been updated who's in the plane crash group etc, especially as Sayeed such a prominent figure. And why did the Russian also start shouting "we had an agreement not to cross the lines" - it sounded like he truly didnt know who they were and was just shouting the truth. Did I miss something?

Overall though, a far better episode. Shame no more Family Guy reference though!

Are we sure it's the same "eye-patch guy" as seen from the pearl station. I was sure I recongnised the chap when I saw him on the pearl station screen, but this chap in this episode wasnt him.

Screencaps of both anyone?

He did it to get in with the survivors, make it seem like he was in opposition to the Others. The Others have demonstrated repeatedly that they don't really have any reason or great desire to kill the survivors except where necessary. They do wish to get an insider or multiple insiders in with our heroes, and have tried this multiple times - Ethan, Goodwin, perhaps even Ben in his Henry Gale guise - and my guess is that Mikhail, with his genial and helpful persona, was trying to gain their trust.

I don't have caps but it was the same guy, as I recognised him as Andrew Divoff when he appeared in on Pearl monitors. It is Teh W1shmastor
