David Tennant quits Dr Who
Just mentioned on SKY NEWS and according to The Sun, tomorrow.
Anyone know anything else?
Rose leaving was bad enough for my kids, now Tennart is off?

Given the appalling state of some of the scripts he has had to work with (in particular both Christmas 'specials') then I am not in the least bit surprised.
Although series 2 had some excellent episodes and moments, it was buried amid a lot of not even second rate dirge - I am still trying to get that awful episode with the girl, the Olympic games and the scribbles out of my mind yet the two parter Satans Pit was excellent - what gives?

It was only mentioned on Sky as they were reviewing the papers and mentioned the story so it's probably Sun BS!

The Sun aren't the most reliable source, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is quitting. Wouldn't put any trust in their tips for his replacement though - they'll just be speculation and are most likely wide of the mark.

To be fair, as good as the actor is, the stuff he's had to work with recently (both acting "talent" and scripts) would make anyone in their right mind think about jumping ship, hopefully before their career goes down the *******.

Have to wait for confirmation i suppose but it wouldn't come as a huge shock i don't think. What do they have - three goes left before they have to find some way of resetting the clock on the regeneration thing?

Bah, hell, I'll do it next. I've only watched a handful of Cybermen and Dalek episodes from the Docs previous incarnations... but the fact that I think RTD is God incarnate and that making cheap-shot self-righteous episodes of bleeding heart liberal anti-government propaganda is good family entertainment should quality me to pilot the TARDIS!
Then I'll bugger off after a year knowing that I'll forever be associated with a British TV institution and the film offers will come rolling in.
Oh, and I'd want my costume to be composed of 100% stonewashed denim; jeans, shirt and jacket... with cowboy boots and a Stetson to match, but with cufflinks in the form of a question mark. So 'ner.

I'll be amazed if anyone sticks around for more than 3 series - a nine month shoot is a hell of a commitment for an actor in this country.
Once they've established themselves in that role they then need to leave it in order to take advantage of the other stuff they get offered as a result.
It's OK for American stars to do long TV seasons as they have a recognised "off season" when they can all go off and do films, but there's nothing like that in the UK.

Not surprised at all. Dr. Who must hold the record for most spectacular and fastest jump the shark ever.
With the standard of material he has had to work with, I am not surprised in the slightest that he wants to jump ship.
I have only ever seen him in this and Harry Potter. In harry Potter he was good, but in Dr. Who after a promising start in the Christmas episode, when he really did appear mean, he just spent the whole series gurning madly and calling it acting.
Hopefully, we will get someone decent in the role next.

They're going to rip through all his regenerations within the next 5 years at this rate ; if the series lasts that long.

I think the problem is the scripts, they could get an oscar winning actor and the writers would have gurning madly and acting like mean, over-active sugared up loon

People really think they're gonna stick to the limited number of regenerations thing?

*radical idea*
They could always go a few generations back and run a couple of new stories with the Sylvester McCoy Doctor as he was seen at the start of the Paul McGann TV movie. Now that looked promising.

I dont see why people are complaining so much....he wil have doen 3 years...only Tom Baker did a stupidly long stint...3 seems about right to me!
Must ditto comments about the quality of writing though...who cares who plays the doctor, what I want to know is when RTD will be leaving

One or two episodes worth watching in two whole series, and a spin-off series composed entirely of utter crap. It's a wonder anybody involved in the series is still there. The shame alone would make me quit. Tennant's wide eyed loon stare will not be missed. Now get rid of everybody else involved and start from scratch with somebody who knows how to write for adults and not toddlers.

I don't blame him. I think the whole Doctor Who reimagining has been like the emperors new clothes. We're all supposed to believe that it's this brilliant and radical updating of the franchise but in reality the whole thing has been ****poor IMO. One or two good episodes sprinkled throughout but overall low quality TV.
