I only found out the Hootananny wasn't live when, one year, I happened to switch it over from BBC2 to BBC1 to see what was happening in London and Edinburgh, and there on the stage in Edinburgh was one Jools Holland.

My illusions were shattered that night, and the Hootananny has never been the same for me since.

Yeah, its been pre recorded in November for the last few years Certainly detracts from the atmosphere of the show when you know its not live. From what I've read, it was most apparent the year Miss Dynamite was on the show. One minute she was on Hootenanny, the next minute she was live at the Hogemany celebration in Edinburgh. Also one year, the New Year on hootenanny was reported 5 minutes early or late (can't remember) from the time Big Ben registered.

I knew it was prerecorded, but I always assumed it was prerecorded a day or two before. But November?? Oh man. Their New Year's Eve spirit is totally acted and fake, that's no good.

Having been to see it filmed no they don't. Most of the players who had been there a while had someone in the audience. When the player was picked they moved that person's friend into the centre block (rather than off on the wing). Given that the average player is there for about 21 games then they must have a rough idea of when they are likely to play but they aren't told in advance.

I didn't realise it wasn't live until this year when I was sitting in a bar in Cork on NYE, it was on in the background and Alan Carr was being interviewed on it.... while he was sitting at the bar 2 stools away. It was freaky.

Plus it leaves a funny smell when....

She says she only wanted £20K and turned down that and £45K

Banker only offered £45K when she had £3K and £250K left (never seen an offer that low when the biggy is still there)

Plus, on a Sunday with big ratings

I'm just an old cynic

Ratings to plummet now...

Well done to Laura anyway...took nerve to turn down £45k, although would have been a much harder choice if the banker had have offered £100k or more......

It did seem an odd offer, perhaps the producers wanted to push for a 250k winner. So offered a super loew offer.

Well done Laura

As said before £45K was a low offer, so worth the gamble

And never seen the 'behind the scenes' people watching before the final box is opened?

Well you know, they had to get prepared for the confetti and fireworks (etc).

Still great to watch even though I know what happened.

Noel looked like he was start to flag towards the end and looked very emotional when they were celebrating. It was an odd offer from the banker but he is prone to giving low offers from time to time, perhaps he thought she would not take the gamble and take his offer.

Well you have to remember that after she won they will have edited it carefully. I'd guess they always been filming the crew at times like this but only choose to show it now that the £250,000 was won.

During previous sweeps Laura has usually said Deal, and the banker would of moted this. Perhaps she was on a bluff previous to today.

Nice win
