John Barry

Hi,
I've recently got into John Barry's work through watching various films and love it!
Is there a definitive CD collection available with ORIGINAL recordings?
(I know there's one covering 40 years of his career but it's got cover versions played by the Prague Orchestra which is not what I'm interested in).

Thanks

The best 2 CD's are Themeology which collects all the originals of many of his best pieces and Moviola which is his best work re-recorded with the Royal Philharmonic but conducted by the great man himself.

I did have a CD with Zulu OST on one side and various other Barry hits on the other, lost it the last move though.

You'd do far better just to buy the separate score CDs - they all bear listening in full, and there are many, many gems that would never appear on best-of compilations.

The remastered Bonds are an excellent place to start (original recordings, not that you'd guess that from the exceptional quality).
Make sure you pick up The Beyondness of Things and Eternal Echoes too. Not film scores as such, but just as lovely.

Although i agree Jonnof, it can all be very daunting. I think for a newbie to JB the comps are best.

The Beyondness of Things is rather lovely.
