No longer happening

Quote:
The actor, who rose to fame 10 years ago in This Life, expresses his surprise that people still hold the TV series in such high affection, constantly asking if it will return.

"We did talk about coming back. We all met, the five from the first series and Amy Jenkins, the writer and producer, and we were all pretty up for it. We wouldn't have careers without that show.

"But because (producer) Tony Garnett killed it at the moment of maximum demand, which is an incredibly talented thing to do, to find the entry point to revive it - even for an hour - without it looking a bit tacky, was too difficult."

I thought this thread referred to the return of 'That's Life', which in some ways would be more interesting . . .

It's on again:

It was the iconic drama about a group of twenty-something lawyer friends that hooked legions of fans in the mid-90s.
Now, a decade on, BBC2 is to catch up with the lives of Milly, Egg, Miles, Anna and Warren in a 90-minute special of This Life that will bring the character's stories up to date.

The original cast, principal writer and executive producer will all reunite for the one-off episode to mark the 10th anniversary of the first series.

This Life - Ten Years On will be set around one of the characters who has become a commercial success after writing a book based on the group's friendship, with a TV company keen to film their reunion.

The show, which only ran to two series, proved a hit with its racey storylines about the friends who lived, loved and played hard while sharing a house in London.

It first aired in 1996, making instant stars out of Jack Davenport, who played Miles, Daniela Nardini, who played fast-living Anna, and Andrew Lincoln, who went on to star in Teachers.

The show's creator and principal writer, Amy Jenkins, has penned the new script while its original executive producer, Tony Garnett, will produce.

The special will air later this year, when the first two series of the show will also be repeated. Roly Keating, the BBC2 controller, commissioned the new instalment alongside the controller of drama commissioning, Jane Tranter.

"This Life brilliantly defined what it meant to be young in the 90s and captured the imagination of a whole generation of viewers," he said. "It's fantastic that Tony, Amy and the original, world-class cast have agreed to reunite for what promises to be one of the drama events of the year."

Ms Jenkins added: "It's 10 years on and there have been big changes in the characters' lives. They're no longer in the waiting room of life - but out there on centre stage. The question is - do people really change?"

Filming on the special will begin later this month on location in London and Sussex.

It will be made as a co-production between World Productions, which made the original series, and BBC Wales, with Julie Gardner executive producing.

Brilliant news. Can't wait to catch up with characters such as Egg and Warren, now we just have to hope it's as good

Lovely, yet another middle class drama. As if it wasn't bad enough first time. I bet they have loads of conversaions about Irarrqq.

total class.

there were plenty of them to - what was Anna's when she was in the dress, swigging wine, and just about to go out? she also had some wicked put downs, maybe one of them to Jo?

Outstanding series. One of the talked about TV programs and I was doing my GCSE's/A-levels at the time. Really great, provided an idea of what uni/professional life may be like. Now I'm at the age of the protagonists in this series I need a reminder of what I could be doing......

Digiguide seems to have them as 40 minute episodes - I am sure they were an hour long? Can anyone verify?

Any idea if theres going to be a documentary or retrospecial aired as well as I think one could be quite interesting.

Great series and a wonderful finale by the way.

Yes I really enjoyed the recent repeats including last night's finale.

Brought back happy memories of watching it with my University flatmates each week, as it said in the Metro this morning, this was high quality stuff from before the Reality TV era washed out the schedules
