The DVD Forums Retro challenge Round 6 - SMASH TV ENDS 01/01/05 5pm

Get the highest score using just one credit on, SMASH TV for the Arcade.

You can either use the actual Arcade machine (yeah likely) or scores obtained by mame emulation (on any platform) will be allowed.

Rules

1. One 'Score' Post per person only. Once you've posted a score if you beat that either update your old post (leaving your old time there as well for reference) or delete that post and post your new score

2. Emulation (on any platform) of the game is allowed, however due to Ts and Cs this will not be discussed in this thread. Open a new thread (within the Ts and Cs or contact a friend).

3. Photographic (or movie) proof must be provided with your top score. No PC screenshots as these are too easy to doctor. If you can only take a photo with a camera phone and can't take the picture off the phone contact me.

4. No cheats/action replay codes etc will be used. However game exploits can be used.

5. The Winner can pick next months competition challenge. They may pick any game on any non current system (ie no Gamecube/PS2/Xbox) challenges. However if the game can be emulated you increase the number of people who can take part in the challenge. If needs be state if the game is to be running on/as PAL or NTSC due to differences in timing/speeds

6. The person posting the challenge can take part themselves.

7. If you need to emulate to take part is this competition - DO NOT ASK WHERE TO GET ROMS!

8. After the competiton finishes people may post suggestions as to what the next challenge is, however the decision is left to the winner. When they've decided they will copy and paste this rules into the new thread.

9. This is a challenge to see who can get the best score/time on a game. It's all about sportsmanship. Keep it fair!

10. This thread is a bit of fun however people can donate prizes to the winner should they wish to.

Closing Date - Saturday 1th January @ 5:00pm

Good Luck

Nice one, have wanted to give this a propper go

Anyone know what control system the arcade machine uses?

and would it be ok to use the version on midway arcade treasures [xbox]? i have no idea how acurate the emulation is.

I've yet to try this, but what methods are people using to control it on mame - didn't it have two joysticks ?

Top choice.

Playing using mame & keyboard. My top so far is about 800,000 on one credit.

To be honest, I'd suggest no as like you said the emulation could be off. If we all stuck to Mame it would ensure everything was kept fair.

just had about 10 or so goes on mame and got about 300'000 the difficulty ramps up a lot after the first 3 or so rooms. couldn't imagine playing on a keyboard, mame takes input for 2 joysticks and its easy to setup on an xbox pad with the 2 sticks but i didn't like it, ended up using the d pad and the 4 buttons which wasn't much better. will have a little go on the xbox one to see how it compares.

The chances of you winning are zero if you don't download Mame and use that.

man thats a lot, good stuff you might want to rethink where you put your separator though 1'124'390 looks better and doesnt make me think i am ahead of you on first glance with 300'000

I cant remeber the SNES one being this hard, although me and my brother did use to play that game to death only to find out that the SNES cart must of being broken, cos when we did finally complete it, it went to a 'checking roms' screen and found a bad rom, and the system locked up, me and my brother we're so angry!

I can get up to the boss, but by that time i only have 1 life left and lose it straight away, cant seem myself beating him with just one life, but practice makes perfect i guess!

Extend this,as Bolch mentioned it's been a busy period for most and hard to get any decent gaming time in.

I know I want a crack at it
