The DVD Forums Retro challenge Round 5 - F-Zero ENDS 18/12/04 5pm

Get the fastest lap time using any car, on the track, Port Town II on F-Zero for the SNES, NTSC Version

You can either use the actual SNES machine or scores obtained by emulation (on any platform) will be allowed.

Rules

1. One 'Time' Post per person only. Once you've posted a time if you beat that either update your old post (leaving your old time there as well for reference) or delete that post and post your new score

2. Emulation (on any platform) of the game is allowed, however due to Ts and Cs this will not be discussed in this thread. Open a new thread (within the Ts and Cs or contact a friend).

3. Photographic (or movie) proof must be provided with your top score. No PC screenshots as these are too easy to doctor. If you can only take a photo with a camera phone and can't take the picture off the phone contact me.

4. No cheats/action replay codes etc will be used. However game exploits can be used.

5. The Winner can pick next months competition challenge. They may pick any game on any non current system (ie no Gamecube/PS2/Xbox) challenges. However if the game can be emulated you increase the number of people who can take part in the challenge. If needs be state if the game is to be running on/as PAL or NTSC due to differences in timing/speeds

6. The person posting the challenge can take part themselves.

7. If you need to emulate to take part is this competition - DO NOT ASK WHERE TO GET ROMS!

8. After the competiton finishes people may post suggestions as to what the next challenge is, however the decision is left to the winner. When they've decided they will copy and paste this rules into the new thread.

9. This is a challenge to see who can get the best score/time on a game. It's all about sportsmanship. Keep it fair!

10. This thread is a bit of fun however people can donate prizes to the winner should they wish to.

Closing Date - Saturday 18th December @ 5:00pm

Good Luck

Hmm, what about the NTSC rom running on a PAL SNES, or is that a bit of an unfair advantage ? or even a disadvantage, the way I see it everything would be slower but it would still being using the NTSC timing albiet slowed down.

had a little go and did it in practice mode (great track btw ) but the rival is a bit annoying there's no time trial mode, best lap was about 0'41"65 or something like that (PAL), never had f-zero back in the day, have it now but not played it much and will be rubbish with an xbox pad.

WOW, that's fast Anyone got any tips?

press down just before you land for a smoother landing, and use the sholder buttons for tight corners. that's the extent of my knowlege.

got a 38"9X and lowered the gap down to just over 10 seconds

28 seconds seems a bit TOO fast :s

press and hold up on the jumps to fly faster
save the turbos till the very end of the 3rd lap
press turbo just before you pass for the 4th lap and you will gain another, there giving you 4 turbos for that lap
used shoulder buttons and turn to fly round corners faster
this is the usa version btw

and i still came out with 38.xxx for that 1 lap
how did you manage to get 28 ?

cool.

39/100 * 17.5 = 6.825
39 - 6.8 = 32.2

not saying i would get that using an ntsc snes, just brings the 28 more into reality or something?

There are shortcuts on a few tracks of F-zero , but the time can be cut down even more, by using all your boosts all the way around the track, on the last lap, but this is quite hard to do
