I've just received a copy of Farscape Season 1 - 1st Starburst and have noticed that the picture is really 'juddery/stuttery' - when there's a panning shot the picture doesn't scroll smoothly.

Has anyone else noticed this?

In particular, when John's pod is swallowed by the wormhole and it closes the blue 'aura' of the worm hole shrinks in perceptible stages.

It's noticeable on both discs. Wonder if it's the player or a duff disc?

I've got the first 3 Starburst sets incoming - will post about the picture quality when I get them - not ditching my R2 Complete S1 set yet!

I'm a complete newbie to Farscape and have just watched the first few episodes in some DVDs I rented. I believe they would have been taken from the Complete R2 Season 1 Box Set.

Even after reading all this stuff I'm not definite on what to go for should I want to buy any. I hear there are some forthcoming R4 Australian box sets out in May this year. I'm an extras junkie, so am interested in the best set for them. It's all so confusing!

I think the R1 Starburst editions look the most appealing due to a factor of both cost and extras (look the same as R2 extras plus more), BUT are these just going to be released as cheaper season box sets somewhere down the line?

It may be a by product of the PAL to NTSC conversion?

If you're a newbie to Farscape and just want to watch them then I wouldn't hang about waiting for a set of seasons 2-4 with definitive extras mate, that's not likely to be resolved anytime soon

As for the Starburst's being released as cheaper season sets later, can't see them being much cheaper than they are now individually!

Very odd, the judder is there on the two Tosh 43hk's I have but not on the old Tosh 2109! Plays perfectly, damn.

Looks like there's ANOTHER release coming too, all four season - R4 £16.74 05/05/2005!!!

I think we need to wait for more details on these, but they are the cheapest sets yet!

I'm not sure if these are re-releases of the previous R4 sets (of which season 1 apparently had terrible picture quality) or brand new budget releases like the Starburst editions.

Anyway check out the "outstanding special features" on the first season set:

Special Features:
- Main Menu Introduction
- Menu Animation & Audio
- Quiz: Trivia Quiz

I know, I saw that too. However, if you look at the Season 2 set there's a little more detail for the extra's. Hopefully, they just haven't got their descriptions correct yet.

Also just noticed that lefthandedguitarist mentioned the Oz sets in a previous post.

How far are BBC3 into the S1 run?
Always meant to watch some of these as people rave about the show, and having seen only a couple of episodes from later seasons, probably not an impulse buy I would make a present.
At least there might be some decent HD-DVD releases out by the time I get around to watching this!

BBC3 are doing something quite strange at the moment.
During the week they are showing one episode a night which they have been doing for awhile now and tonight will be episode 18 of Season 2 but over the weekend they are showing episodes from the first season. This Saturday they are showing episode 5 and on Sunday they are showing episode 6, why they have restarted from the beginnning for the weekend I have no idea but I guess if anyone missed it they have another chance to catch up.

That's the whole season for £16 or even less if you are a card holder.

I think it's probably your player. I've noticed juddering when playing that episode on my DVD player, and I noticed juddering with my Samurai Jack DVD too, but in both cases it was because I'd forgotten to set my DVD player to NTSC mode (it automatically resets to PAL after being turned off, quite annoying). Might be worth checking your DVD player's remote control to see if it has a PAL/NTSC button on it anywhere.

Anyone know when Farscape is back on BBC3? They said they were showing all 88 episodes, but last week they finished S2 and now nothing is scheduled

I'm currently rewatching Farscape all the way through on DVD and have now started season 2. Seriously excellent TV.

Cheers, I thought of that but couldn't find an option to change it - the Tosh 2109 has the Pal/Ntsc option on a menu. I'll have another look tonight.

Right, just checked the player (sd43hk) and it has no option to change PAL/NTSC as it does it automatically. So unfortunately that means that it doesn't deal with these discs 100%. I've got a ton of R1's and never had this problem before.

I also checked them again on my Tosh 2109b, it had the option to change PAL to AUTO. It was on AUTO working fine, changed to PAL and the discs wouldn't play.

I've thought about just accepting the stutter but when I see it playing properly I just won't be satisfied.

So, Starbursts off to ebay and the hunt begins for cheap, PAL releases. I hope the new R4's are not just reissues and Season 1 has the artifacts removed/Starburst extras.

Who ever said buying dvd's was easy!

Guys

Anymore info on the new R4 releases out tomorrow? My CC is hovering around dvdcrave. Not sure where the best place to go would be for the definitive answer?
