In the wake of their week of sold-out shows at the London ICA and to celebrate the release of their greatest hits collection, Singles, Suede have announced a UK tour for December. Dates (and ticketline info) are as follows:

I'm going to try to get tickets for the Birmingham show.

I managed to get tickets to go the Dog Man Star show down at the ICA in September too. That's going to be awsome!

I adore the first two albums (amongst the best of the 90s), but if ever there were a band that went rapidly downhill... That said, I own all their albums, but their later output isn't even as good as the early b-sides.

Yup, going to the Manchester show, they were excellent at Birmingham Academy last year (as was Gemma Hayes in support, although the aftershow was a bit cack) although not as hot at Glastonbury this year, and the new tracks didn't leave much of a mark.

(After me telling them not to make the two new tracks rubbish, and everything, too, I'm very disappointed [I really did this, at first they thought I was insulting them, then realised I just meant that everybody else's bonus 2 tracks were generally rubbish and they should buck the trend])

Listening to 'Singles' it becomes very obvious that Suede were never the same after Butler left. Nothing matches the quality of those first two albums.

Is the other new one that "I love the way you love me baby" one that they did at Glastonbury? Only when I saw them do that on the telly I did think it pretty terrible. Shame because Brett's earlier lyrics were fantastic, especially on Dog Man Star, and now it's just a rather lame song that repeats the same line over and over for a chorus. I mean, they must know that it's not as good as what they used to do, surely. There must be a dim awareness at the back of his mind. Or maybe there isn't....
oh well.

So true...but very little that's ever been released by anyone matches Dog Man Star, which is simply one of the best albums I have ever heard. Brett's gotta have known that they'd blown it somewhat when they chucked Butlers guitars out on the street during those sessions!

Butler's guitars being left outside by the band is a myth according to Brett.

I don't know if any of you guys have read Love and Poison (the official Suede biography) yet. If not, then try and get hold of a copy, it think it's only available from the ICA at the minute, but it's a great read.

Although the book in an official biography (written by a member of the Suede Information Service, David Barnett), it's written from a pretty neutral standpoint and covers Bernard's exit from the band pretty thoroughly. Although nobody comes out of the affair smelling of roses, some of the things that Bernard was doing at the time make him sound like he was insane. Just one example being phoning up members of management and sharpening knives down the phone!

Like I said, great read and I definately recommend that anyone with even a passing interest in the band have a look at it.

I went to the first 3 ICA nights with my wife who is a huge fan. All of them were excellent but I think I'd choose Dog Man Star as my favourite night.

Also attended the free gig/signing last Tuesday - HMV is such a terrible place to see a band! Being squashed among the CD racks with nothing to drink does not make for a scintillating gig atmosphere though the performance was pretty good. The signing was cool though - my wife got to meet her beloved Brett at last while i was relegated to photo-taking duties
