He might have seen him on Channel 5. I confess I've only seen Tim Howard play 3 times. Put in a good performance each time, in one of the games he was easily man of the match. He pulled off some great stops. And he reminded me a wee bit of Schmeichel in the way he commanded the box.

I've seen Quaresma play more often though, mostly for Sporting but once for the Portugese U-21's and he was stunning to watch. Although I doubt he could be thrown straight into the first team if we happen to buy him.

Laporta plays down Beckham talk

http://www.teamtalk.com/teamtalk/New...627188,00.html

Is it just me, or did I see footage of Laporta at a press conference talking about their "Beckham project" and dealings with Kenyon, now he says "I have never said 'I am going to buy Beckham'.

There's some reports that are now saying that Real are negotaiting a swap deal with United involving Luis Figo. They say that the Portugal international isn't exactly happy with Madrid making moves to sign a player that would play in his position in the squad and that he's close friends with Carlos Quieroz aswell.

Sometimes I really wonder if you think before you type. (that brickwall smiley is getting very old - especially as it's never used properly). They don't *need* to be regulars, for it to have a squad impact. There were times last season where we were down to the barebones, and if it happened next season, the bare bones would mean playing kids. Kids without experience.

You'd think I just suggested they sacrifice a newborn before eachmatch, and not suggest that getting in another defender to ensure a better squad depth might be a good idea (Arsene wenger made the same mistake you are making).

i'd like to reitterate that, we have lost 2 CB and Wes will miss the start of the season, so we do need defender cover.

Lets not forget it was "kids" that won United their title a few years back...

Lucio would be an excellent signing, IMO his performances in the CL alone these last 2 seasons would easily put him above Ferdinand...

I'm tired of this lame abuse from glory supporters. Use your brain and read my post properly. David May was used about once in 3 years, and Laurent Blanc has been a spectator since November. So these 2 going is irrelevant - just trims the wage bill. If Wes is out for a long then a defensive replacent may be needed (as I mentioned in one of my previous posts.

I too think that defence is one of the area's that doesn't really need strengthening. O'Shea must be a regular next season and Roy will be moved there for the big games. However, we do need a GK, and maybe a centre back (depending on how long Wes is out.)
You are very daft if you think Wenger made the mistake when he didn't have 7 top defenders to start with: P Neville, G Neville, Keane, Brown, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Silvestre.

Same old nc.

Grow up, nc. Whining about abuse, when you're the one always dishing it out, is getting very boring.

We have any kids who could do a top notch job? At the moment, I'd say no. We have 5 defenders (if you don't count Keano) plus Wes who is out again. So, all it takes is for a suspension or injury and we're down to 4 defenders. What happens if Keano joins Butty out injured (or gets himself sent off), and Phil is needed in midfield?

It would be short sighted of Utd not to bring in at least one defender. I doubt Fergie is shortsighted.

Another centreback would atleast put pressure on Ferdinand - he certainly needs a kick up the arse.

Anyway, Manchester United have just released a statement to the press saying "Clubs from Italy and Spain have shown firm interest in signing David Beckham".

I wonder what the offensive cretins at the MEN are going to say when Beckham leaves?

I think it's now pretty clear that Man Utd do indeed want to sell Beckham for the right price and are releasing this statement in an attempt to start a bidding war.

I say he's goes to the European Champions AC Milan.

Seeya Dave!

That statement pretty much opens the auction. Sad to see him go, but we are equally effective when he isnt in the side (Beckham didnt play in any of the Newcastle, Arsenal or Liverpool games), and for Ł30m+ its good business.

If I was dishing out abuse all the time, surely I would have been banned by now? To get criticised for being right is very annoying. Lets leave it at that.

Anyone think that Adidas might put pressure on Beckham to sign with one of the clubs that they provide kits for, such as Real Madrid or AC Milan?

This bit suggests to me that he will definitely be going.
