I love NiN but they aren't headliners of a mainstream festival. It's not personal preference it's common sense. When they played in 2007 half of the crowd left to go and watch whatever was on the radio 1 tent. It was an outstanding show too. They just simply don't have the following over here to pull off a headline set.

Didn't bother streaming the album last week and now, thanks to Amazon now providing instant MP3 versions with every CD purchase, it's mine. Handy, as I'm nearly always at work before the postie arrives.

Today's listening sorted, then.

I'm easily impressed.... The fact I woke up, turned the phone on and the album is on there waiting for me still amuses me yet my kids will take that for granted I guess.

First listen to the album, I'm mostly impressed though maybe not quite blown away yet. It's a continuation of the very ambient electronic sound from Year Zero and Ghosts. The tracks that stand out most for me initially are Everything (controversial!) and In Two.

Nine Inch Nails pt.2 - what Trent did next.

It's alright. Hasn't left much of an impression on first listen.

Nothing really stands out sadly. It's a good workout for the sound system though.

Re: Nine Inch Nails pt.2 - what Trent did next.

It does seem front-heavy, the singles already released (minus Everything, which I hate even more now) being the standouts. I like the funk and falsetto of Satellite, and the Blockheads-esque sax on While I'm Still Here. I Would For You is pretty epic.

Listened to this three times now - I wouldn't say it's that ambient, nothing like Ghosts or even the instrumentals from The Fragile/The Slip. Most of the songs have got quite a strong groove, approaching funk, even on the more low-key ones: All Time Low is a pretty good example, lots of (almost) Pharrell-esque falsetto and a pumping bass line.

I'm quite interested in hearing the audiophile mix. I didn't preorder from nin.com so I haven't heard it yet.

I'm not liking it much.

Came Back Haunted is the definite stand-out track for me and I quite like All Time Low. Copy of A just gets annoying the more I listen to it and I still can't stand Everything (it sounds like Trent doing guest vocals on a **** pop song).

At least the digibook is very nice....

Struggling to download the normal mix to do a comparison, keeps giving me corrupt zips.

But just done a very quick A/B with the pre-release download of Copy of A - the 'audiophile' version is much better to my ears. Be interesting if this experiment does much to progress the loudness wars / raise awareness and all that...

Would've been bolder to release the audiophile as the 'normal' and promote the compressed version as the 'alternative'.

Given this a proper listen now...it just doesn't sound like a NIN album!

A few tracks are NIN-lite, with the rest being NIN Plays Pop!

Some nice beats etc at times, but all a bit 'safe'...

Still, I need to give it a few more listens, so it may become a grower!

It grows on you a bit, but I still think it's mostly unsubstantial on the whole.

Guess I'm in the minority as I love it and its their best IMO since the Fragile. I always prefer their more upbeat tracks & this is full of them. Love the funky tracks too. My only minor gripe is that it is too NiN as almost all the way through it you think track X sounds like track Y from album Z, if that makes sense?

Hmmm, been reading the small-print regarding the pre-sale tickets via the official site. You need government-issued photo ID to get your tickets at the venue.

What can I use if I don't have a driver licence & my passport has expired?
