What on earth do you mean by '1st source'? Are you saying, in there somewhere, that DVD looked like VHS if the source was the same? So Wargames on VHS was as good as Wargames on DVD which will be the same as the bluray as the source was an old one? Or the opposite? What?

I refuse to give credence to the points you make about CRT until you make sense of your bluray arguments. Perhaps you mean the bluray will look the same as the dvd to me because I'm watching on a 1997 28" Widescreen TV with a goldfish bowl screen.

I'd point out to Roborob that Star Trek (the original series) looked massively better than Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD, despite being shot 21 years apart from their respective first series, but I suspect his head would implode.

That's probably because the 1st source was only VHS and the Show was shot on DVD Before not being transferred onto BlueRay properly in the First place.

I conclude the 1st source is the edited film that appeared in cinemas, But if you have seen any of the documentries on movie history you see that many of these films are not lasting well.

I assume there is a master copy of the edited film that is used in most copies and thats what they use for DVD and Blue ray copies.

Of course do we all have all the right equipment to properly see the Blue Ray at the high level. A Good TV, A Good Blue Ray Player, Great Connections, etc.

I have spent a pretty penny on a HD Ready TV, A well rated Blue Ray Player and quality connections though as of yet I realy haven't got additional sound speakers as I realy don't see the need for them and my wife does not want a lot of cables around the living room.

We wanted a flat screen HD TV but ideally wanted something that showed SD pretty good, so we opted for Plasma in the end. Roborob, I recommend you get one of these mate.

I have a flat screen or rather my wife bought it with my money, It is HD ready and 38 inches, but I forget if it is LCD or plasma.

I only got one after my last old fashioned TV exploded, by that point you could not buy a CRT TV any more. I also have a blue ray player but that was to see the extra features on titles that have extras on blue rays but not DVDs.

I already have Wargames on DVD and have no plans to get the blue ray version, though I do say thet Wargames is a good film.

Not sure if it was re-released but my UK DVD is non anamorphic ! It would be be worth it not to have the 4:3 letterbox zoom mode.

HD is all fine in theory but what I am saying is the TV is as important and while HD does make better pictures an old CRT TV would have a better picture than the more modern Plasma or LCD. Thus showing the whole HD to be a bit of a swizz. But lets be honest we were promised the best picture with DVDs and now BluRay says the same. But how long until we get super HD which is twice as good again.

I am happy with the DVDs I already have but the new stuff I'll buy will be blue ray as at some point DVDs will vanish as VHS tapes did.

I whould have got the same TV even if my wife got it, it had decent specs, HD ready and a size that would not be too big for our living room and a good price, sure it came from a supermarket but we used vouchers we recieved when we wed so in the end we paid nothing.
