WOW! Excellent comic book series, and now it's my most anticipated TV series for years.

Who cares, its an aesthetic choice. It's why the older 'Predator' release looks better than the waxy new one.

Anyway, AMC have already confirmed the show for a second season. I can't help feel part of that was down the response it got at Comic-con and they buzz it generated. There's no way the show won't be a hit.

It's quality. You can well imagine it hangin about with R2-D2. And when the fan is switched on it looks like it's scanning for life-forms like R2-D2 does on the ice world of Hoth when Luke Skywalker goes missing. Quality in moton. The other day it disappeared. I said, "where's the bag-l gone? have the jawas come to pick it up in the sandcrawler?" to which one of the girls in the office replied, "No, Les the porter!" —Captainchode

This has to be my most looked forward to show of the autumn. I've read the first two books and will hopefully be getting the next couple as birthday presents next month.

I was not 100% serious whan I said about look crap on my HD TV more a bit of a shock that anyone still shoots things on 16mm, especially big things like this show may well be. Maybe they are using little cameras and want to get stuck into the action etc.. or just hate digital etc..

I dont mind 16mm and it can look cracking on our screens, it just depends on how "Trashy" they are going and what they are going to do to the image, grain I do not mind, but who knows what way they will be going for the final look of the show. If it looks like say - the ugliest VHS quality like 28 Days Later, then I will cry

I cannot imagine they will make it look really bad, but anyone shooting in 16mm must have some serious ideas behind that choice, hopefully we will see why they did it soon and an example of its 16mm look will pop up for us to view

This is a bit beyond me, but this man seems to think Super 16mm can still be as good at 1080p HD....

Quote:
Image Resolution: Super 16 versus 1080p/24sf Digital HDTV Video
Super-16 is also a perfect fit for HDTV in terms of it's resolution performance. The highest resolution HD format is 1080p/ 24sf 1080 x 1920 pixels progressive-scan format.
Because of the extremely high data rate generated by this format, severe digital filtering is used to limit the bandwidth of the video signal before it is recorded to HDCAM tape. Also because the CCD imager in these cameras is limited by the optical low pass filter, the response is zero at 1920 horizontal lines. The highest possible resolution it is possible to record on HDCAM tape is 1550 horizontal lines. Since the CCD response drops rapidly above 1550 lines, not much is lost because of the HDCAM digital filtering.
The 1080p/ 24sf cannot be transmitted by air, or displayed by any of the currently available consumer HDTV sets. It must be converted to 1080i (interlaced) format for transmission. This reduces the vertical resolution by at least 25% to no more than 655 TV Lines, although it does not affect the horizontal resolution. In any event, no curretly available consumer HDTV set can display more than 1400 horizontal lines.

Therefore the standard of resolution performance needed to guarantee that a film originated program material will appear just as sharp on HDTV transmission as a 1080i originated video program is an MTF performance of at least 35% response at 655 x 1550 TV Lines.

Super 16 easily meets, and in fact far exceeds these requirements. Even with the over 10 year old Eastman EXR films, such as 7245, and shooting with modern prime lenses, Super 16mm film performance is 68% MTF response at 655 TV Lines (vertical), and 59% MTF response at 1550 TV Lines (horizontal)
http://cinematechnic.com/super_16mm/...uper_16mm.html

It was last updated 4 years ago though, so the bit about no consumer HDTV sets being able to display 1080p/24sf is obviously rubbish.

Caught this article in the Guardian:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-rad...frank-darabont

I like AMC's Mad Men and Breaking Bad so will give this a go when it comes out.

Interesting to see that This Life's Andrew Lincoln stars in this.

I was expecting this to be shown Feb or so next year!

Saying that, I checked the fxuk site and cannot find a confirmed start date!
