Good performance, good result, you've qualified for the UEFA cup without having to qualify, that's £5m right there!
Besides LVG says your expectations are too high

I'd agree, expectations are too high, if we were expecting a title challenge right now, but we're expecting top 4, which surely is the contracted minimum.
To be clear, I want us to be challenging, but expect, I'm not that arrogant.

There was a bit of the "Roy Hodgson at Liverpool" about LVG's comments last night. He's got a team packed full of talent and has had £250 million to spend on improving it. He's got one of the biggest wage bills in the division.
Is it really too much for us to "expect" to finish in the top 4 in a season where Leicester City won the league by 10 points?
I don't like Mourinho, but I can't imagine those words coming out of his mouth.

No JM would have engineered his own sacking and a massive payoff, whilst saying the world was against him.

Honestly? Yes it is too much to "expect" that. Utd fans have experienced 20 odd years of sustained dominance but that was not yours by right. It is a football club the same as any other and you have no entitlement.

whole WIDE world.
it's not unreasonable, given the money spent, to expect to be at least the fourth best finishers.

Why, then, not just forget about the football element and just have a league table of spending? Even on that basis you wouldn't be top team, not even in your own City.

fair enough.
we should at least expect to be entertained, and to challenge for the top 4, or higher.
lets not kid ourselves, the only reason United are anywhere near the top 4 is that, Leicester aside, every one else has been bobbins this season.
Maybe the gap is narrowing (which is a good thing), we will see over the next few years.

We did finish on the same points as 4th place City...so we weren't that far away from expectations. It's mainly the boring, boring style of play that has disappointed me most, you just know even this team is capable of better under the right leadership!
...great to be in the FA cup final again though

Through my local football team I've 'won' the opportunity to buy a face value ticket to the cup final....in the Palace end

Don't do it!
I sat in the away end once at Old Trafford versus Palace. It was horrible.

Yeah I turned it down, they did have some in Utd end but those went to the guys drawn out ahead of me.

That's what I thought, but I was specifically told the Palace end. As it's part of the dreaded 'football family' allocation I would assume it was more likely to be in the Palace half if anything, but didn't want to risk it.

We had a Premier League winning team we've added £300 million of spending to that. The English game is at its worst in a long time and he struggles to finish 5th. We have no right to win things, we have no right to be in top 4 every year, we dominated for a long time and it was always going to come to an end. I use 'expect' in the 'could have comfortably predicted' sense. Most people who invested £300million into a successful project would 'expect' to see similar results to those that had gone previously. They certainly would not have 'expected' the wheels to have fallen off.
