still issues with choppy playback when using Prime (skipping frames). Netflix, Plex, iPlayer etc. play fine.
Deleted cache/data from Amazon video app, but still the same.

Firetv news has a guide to installing Google play services, I was able to install play movies, music and YouTube.
These were the android TV version not mobile version so work well with a remote.

Does anyone know if the latest Fire TV box supports UHD playback on the Netflix app?
I've been using an app on my tv for Prime video, but its often choppy and stuttery. Was thinking of trying the Fire TV device itself to see if this clears the issue.
cheers

Yes it supports UHD for Netflix but does not support HDR.
Edit:
I should clarify the fire TV 2 doesn't support HDR.

The Amazon Prime app is available on Apple TV now, i havent researched to see if it supports the Amazon 4K content, but if it does I may get a 4K TV box so I can have a 'one stop' solution for streaming and get around the choppy Amazon video quality....
cheers

Plus, you get to keep youtube, which is being prohibited from the Fire from 1.1.18

My current Apple TV has the Now TV app. I think its the only device that supports 720p on both the entertainment and movie channels. Its about time Sky looked to provide better quality tho.....

I suppose they don't want it competing with SKY so much, whenever I renew my basic SKY package I always explain I pay £8 a month for NOW entertainment and movies, so I only keep the basic package to record a bit of telly and so my lads can watch the Sooty show we record.

Can anyone who had one of these tell me how it works with say an echo dot?
If I ask my dot to watch Plex (for example) will that load Plex on the Fire TV stick?
Is there any way to make that switch the input to the fire TV at the same time (either natively or using Harmony)
Thanks

Anyone using Amazon Prime on an Apple TV box? What I realised yesterday is that the app lets you watch the fee (ie Prime) material but you can't rent films on it.....
cheers

I see they have a new 4K 'Stick' for £49.99.
Amazon UK - Fire TV Stick 4K with All-New Alexa Voice Remote | Streaming Media Player
I did notice a couple of weeks ago (when they unveiled the new Echos) that the old 4K box was no longer listed in the FireTV section, and going directly to the old page showed it was out of stock and unavailable to order.
I wonder how capable this will be. I read somewhere that the most recent revision of the 4K box (with HDR and the built-in HDMI lead) was actually less powerful / sluggish in comparison to the first 4K box they released.

FireOS is just the worst though. Might need to upgrade my 1st gen soon.
Do other media boxes/sticks support Prime Video?

Not so fast, on Android TV it's only on boxes that Amazon have done a deal for. It's not something you can download from the Store.
Even on Android TV the navigation is a mess for Amazon instant. It looks just like fireOS.
