I didn't know Amazon wasn't on Roku. It's frustrating for the consumer as ultimately we want access to everything on one device, and not allowing certain apps or services just because they're a competitor doesn't help us. It's not like Amazon Prime is free either. Not expensive, but you still have to pay for it.

Sky must be really nervous about the future of all these streaming options, especially the cost after they've had decades of being able to overcharge in the domestic market having been almost a monopoly.

Blimey, so it's got a decent amount of grunt then. What sort of games are they?

How is the Shield TV? Is it easy to launch Kodi from boot (and from the home screen, unlike Amazon Fire?) And is it easy to change the DNS, etc settings?

Does it switch refresh rates on the TV when using Kodi? That's the main thing that put me off earlier Android STBs.

Is that not a setting on Kodi?

I think android is the limiting factor here it's only capable of 30 fps, you would think for the TV version they would fixed that.

So you can't change those settings in Kodi then? That's limiting on what should be such a capable device.

I've not had a chance to dig into Kodi settings, had a lot of trouble on first boot with the devices Wi-Fi not seeing much of anything, plugged it into ethernet now and all good now the 2.0 update is on there, 4K games wise things like Beach Buggy Racing support 4K but as my TV is only 1080P I can't really tell you what it looks like but Textures are certainly cleaner than on the Nexus Player (Which IMO is a load of junk esp for gaming) Geforce Now works well although I did notice some pixellation though but I'll need to plug it directly into my router upstairs to see if it was my homeplugs or server-side However latency was nice and low and no stutter or frame drops. On that note probably should start a separate thread for Shield TV.

EDIT: This is the 4K games support so far.

SHIELD now supports 4K Ultra HD game rendering for crisper visuals. The following Android games are now enabled to render in 4K: Beach Buggy Racing, Bombsquad, Hardwood Solitaire IV, Riptide GP 2, Kosmik Revenge, Video Poker Duel, Leo's Fortune, Machinarium, Meltdown, Never Alone, Samurai II, and Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders.

re: 24p I read somewhere the new proper way is to set Kodi Settings->Playback->Adjust display refresh rate -> on start/stop

that setting is on the Android version

Anyone know if there is a way to test the internet speed on a Fire TV Stick? None of the apps to test the speed on the Amazon site seem compatible with the Fire Stick.

I have had a lot of buffering issues on it but I'm not sure if it is the wifi not delivering or if there's another issue. I have a fibre connection so there should be no trouble streaming without buffering unless the speed just isn't getting through, which seems possible.

HI all!
I'll start out by telling you I am very new to streaming as I only got fibre 4 days ago.
Since then I have installed Kodi on my PC and am very impressed indeed!
I had intended to join Amazon prime and still might do that but I like the idea of having Kodi as well.
So this is a pretty basic question..
does the amazon controller work well with Kodi ?
I am thinking of getting Fire tv box rather than the stick if that makes a difference.

thanks

Mike

You might be better off with some sort of mouse control, you can use the controller to move about and select stuff but I prefer a pointer/keyboard for input and search, I use Logitech wireless keyboard with trackpad the K300.

I use just the fire TV remote works fine for me, I also have the kore app installed on my phone which allows you to use a virtual control as some skins have missing functionality.

Thanks!
So I have downloaded Kore to have a look at it.

So are you saying the Amazon TV can be controlled by mouse and keyboard then?
that's interesting

Cheers

I Just bought the Amazone Fire 4k box after buying the lg set that was in the bargain forum.

Then finding out it literally had no smart features whatsoever when it arrived.

I couldn't believe that you could buy a 4k tv with no smart features in it. I googled it before I bought it and read a review that said it had...considering the only 4k content available at the moment is from streaming sources....it was completely illogical.

So yeah, bought the amazon fire to get the smart features back
