That really was the most amateurish, nonsensical, unoriginal episode of Doctor Who I think I've ever seen. Every single idea was stolen from better sci-fi, and none of them were developed in an interesting (or entertaining) way. After the build up about the four knocks, I still don't really know what they were, or why I should care. Less than half an hour after The Master made everyone look and act like John Simm (for a purpose which eludes me) everything was reset back to normal. The cactus people who'd clearly just graduated from the BBC sitcom school of acting were totally superfluous (apart from handily saving The Doctor and then providing him with transport and weaponry) while Tim Dalton and the Time Lords (in a career low for everyone involved, I suspect) appeared to do a bunch of timey wimey stuff which was neither fun nor dramatically satisfying.

On the plus side, Tennant and Cribbins were excellent despite the utterly pants script, one or two of the quieter moments (where the dialogue wasn't drowned out by circus music) were rather touching, and the new series looks promising.

We can also add another new Time Lord random superpower. The ability to skydive from hundreds of feet without a parachute, crash through a glass roof onto a tiled floor and survive. Bet Tom Baker wishes he'd remembered that before he tumbled off a pylon.

That trailer contains a lot of spoilers, but looks like things could get interesting

Of course RTD would obviously not describe them as rip-offs more as 'subtle nods'.

Why on earth has this now descended into people posting stuff from the trailers (and even their own opinions on what *might* happen) in spoiler tags? It's not like any of the stuff shown is actually going to spoil someones enjoyment of the new series.. "OMG they are having WEEPING ANGELS in the new series that's totally ruined it all for me"..

Thanks. Totally ruined the next series.

Nah I'm joking, but I am ultra OCD when it comes to spoilers. With BSG I had to shut my eyes and go LALALLALAALA when they show that 10 seconds quick edit preview at the start. Also affects the end of Merlin and other programs with "Next week...."

Well it's totally retarded and for me makes the thread a pita to read. No, the trailer does not contain lots of spoilers and even if it did then it's already been aired on TV.

You know, there was also lots of RUNNING and JUMPING in the trailer, yeah that's right RUNNING and JUMPING bet you never saw that one coming. Oh and there were DALEKS and a MARSHMALLOW MAN.

AND OMG THERE'S A NEW DOCTOR WHO!!!11111

A few fantastic little touches hidden in a sea of self mourning from rtd yet again trying to muster an epic where it really isn't required.

The reveal of wilf's true role was genius and the Doctor tracking down the grandaughter of his old missus was really good. Still think rtd has completely missed the point of regenerations and totally overplayed it.

And we never did find out who or what accelerated the ood's development and why have two mystery timelords and not identify them. Was it Donna, Romana, his mother, his daughter?

Roll on the Moffat era and hopefully some stronger scripting.

The finale was a shameless grab-bag of sci-fi goodness and I didn't have a clue what was going on, but I still dug it. I liked the drawn out ending too. The tying up of loose ends is a luxury not usually afforded to The Doctor, but for what Tennant has done for Who it's the least his incarnation deserved.

Surprised there hasn't been more chatter about the reference to the weeping angels though. As for the mystery woman, I'm okay with not knowing. A bit of ambiguity never did anyone any harm, and if it's set up for a future pay off then so much the better. If not, I won't lose any sleep over it.

I've been disappointed with some of the new Who series finales & some of the xmas specials in the past but I loved this one. A fitting end for Tennant I thought. I now look forward to the new series.

Just that if she's been a Doc's assistant, Micky's nailed her.
