Those two are no-brainers for the list IMO. Twin Peaks also falls into that category.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Quantum Leap makes it, as I think I was the only one of my friends who liked the ending of that. I'd have liked to see Lost make the list, but I realise that had a real Marmite ending which annoyed a lot of people.

I know they only ran for a season, but I think that Terriers and Freaks & Geeks deserve a mention.

Other shows that spring to mind are Veronica Mars, Boston Legal and Star Trek:TNG.

Conversely, shows that I absolutely love which had less than stellar final episodes (IMO) include Babylon 5, The Practice and perhaps most disappointing of all, The West Wing.

At last! I have believed ever since I saw it live and to this day that the final episode of Blackadder Goodbyeee.... (love that title) is the absolute best finale of any TV show in history. The quote "the best of anything" is no exaggeration and if one takes the last 15 minutes leading up to that final scene, I don't think that it is going to be bettered. Ever.

I would also have included the finale of Quantum Leap in my top 25 (if not 10)as the ending adds a bit of poignancy to an otherwise lightweight series. And although I enjoed Babylon 5 more overall, I felt the final season let the rest down too much and despite the strong ending, would not have included it on my list.

As much as i love the show overall, i just couldn't like the final of Star Trek:TNG, i've only ever watched it once when it was aired on TV, but to my mind at the time it just felt like a lazy, incoherent mess

Veronica mars as good as it was suffered at the end because it needed to tie up stuff too fast and then lot was left hanging.

I forgot about the Shield. Killer ending.

I'd have put The Office (UK) in - great ending. Not only was Tim/Dawn handled perfectly, so was David Brent - left open-ended, but with things looking a bit better for him.

Great choice.

"Finchy......**** off" was a brilliant line.

Agree completely with that.

Am surprised Blake's 7 Isn't in the top 10 though.

Without The Shield making the top ten, I'm just dismissing this list.

Glad to see Quantum Leap & Six Feet Under in there (the latter being my favourite finale ever). Good call on the Scrubs ending too. Love the Peter Gabriel tune they used for the home movie montage. Shame they spoilt it with Season 9.

I'd also add 'Goodbye, Farewell & Amen' from M*A*S*H to the list. 121.6 million people watched it when it was first broadcast in the US . Can you imagine anything getting that kind of viewing figures today?

Friday Night Lights. Pretty much everything you could have wanted from an ending.

Both The O.C and Entourage managed to pull it together for the finales after ropey last series.

And no love for the Buffy ending?

This felt about the most perfect ending for me. The Wire was good and The West Wing felt pretty good too. Friends and Blackadder I found touching (in very different ways!) but I am shocked that MASH didn't make it to the list.

I've still to see all of The Shield (and others like Frasier) from my collection but I doubt anything else I see will touch MASH. I'm hopeful for ER having given up around season 9 originally and now catching up on Sky Atlantic.

The biggest let down of a series end for me was 24. There's several series I didn't manage to make it through with (Lost, Alias, Sopranos and 6ft Under spring to mind the most) and things like Seinfeld that I don't really remember how it ended, but 24 just fell flat.

I'm 40 and *barely* remember the mash finale being on. So i suspect it's age has a lit to do with it.
