The Walking Dead (u.s. pace & no spoilers from the comic please)

The fantastic Robert Kirkman comiccould be coming to a small screen near you courtesy of Frank Darabont & AMC.

They arent exactly HBO but they did make the fantastic Breaking Bad.

I have very high hopes for this. Its the only comic other than Preacher ive followed and since Preacher disappeared into development hell im hoping this one actually makes it.

Oooh, this would be fantastic on TV, if it's handled well... I love The Walking Dead, best comic in ages IMO.

Uncle Creepy from Dread Central and Joe Lynch were talking about this on Twitter earlier... Did wonder what they were going on about

Is 2009/10 going to be the year where subscription services attempt to bring us darker more horrific drama with blood n guts? Do we have True Blood to thank for it? lol

Should be easy enough to develop for tv. Not exactly big-budget. Fingers-crossed they pull it off.

Reading the first few books and it's a no brainer to make into a decent cable show.

It's a much easier and less risky prospect than a Preacher TV show.

I'm in two minds about it - I really enjoy the books, but my worry is about the zombies. The books contain ALOT of them, with alot of zombie mashing as the story progresses ... if they don't get the zombies right, and give them sufficient air time, the whole thing becomes just another gritty survival drama, which would be a real wasted opportunity.

That's going to be one grim storyline.

No idea how I missed this thread.

The Walking Dead is the closest a comic has ever come to engaging me in the same way that Preacher did and it's come close to surpassing it a few times. I've wanted a zombie show for a long time so taking this as the basis makes me very excited.

Darabont knows how to do a good adaptation too.

How long do AMC seasons usually last? I figure the first four volumes would work pretty well as a thirteen episode season.

Officially given the go ahead to film six, one-hour episodes. Not sure how many comic issues storylines that will equate to, but very much looking forward to this.

AMC has reportedly greenlit zombie drama The Walking Dead.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cable network picked up the show for a six-episode run.

The project is based on Robert Kirkman's Image graphic novel series.

Ghost Writer's Jon Bernthal was the first actor to be cast in the programme. Bernthal will play the pivotal role of Shane in the Frank Darabont adaptation.

Eli Stone star Jonny Lee Miller is apparently in talks to take on the lead role of Rick Grimes.

The comic follows a band of travellers as they attempt to stay alive after a zombie apocalypse.

Dead will start filming in June in Atlanta for an October premiere date. The show will make its debut during AMC's annual Fearfest, a marathon of thriller and horror movies.

AMC executive Joel Stillman praised Darabont's Walking Dead for "brilliantly capturing the social commentary and ongoing human drama of the zombie apocalypse".

He added: "And it lets us kick a little zombie you-know-what from time to time."

October? Nice.

Be interesting to see how much it covers. The first four volumes would make a very nice six hour show imo.

The Walking Dead Compendium: Volume 1 is the most complete one yet. I've wanted it for ages, but I'm a cheapskate so keep bailing...£25.82 is still a good price, though!
