Doctor Who Season 7 news & rumours.
Okies. First is a bit of a blow. Check out this article from AICN http://www.aintitcool.com/node/50027, confirmed by several tweets from Lizo Mzimba https://twitter.com/#!/lizo_mzimba
NO FULL 13 EPISODE SERIES IN 2012!, more likely to be either another split series again or a couple of specials. 2013 will be the 50th Anniversary of Who, so maybe they're saving their pennies (thats what has been hinted at, in any case).

Some reports are suggesting that we still get an Xmas Special for 2011, then the first half of the series(6 - 7 episodes) to air in Autumn 2012. Others then say that the second half of this series will air in the spring of 2013, while others feel quite sure that the 14 episodes already stated DONT included the 2011 Xmas special (although we will still have one) but its going to be two series of 7 episodes one for Autumn 2012, with the other for Autumn 2013 (Whos 50th anniversary).
To be honest I would be OK with two 7 episodes series (and Xmas Specials) if they had a bit more money per episode to spend and if it allowed the Moff to write more (all?) episodes.

Terry Pratchett made some very strange tweets recently, insisting he was not talking to Moffat at all. I don't know if he was genuinely dispelling rumours from the press, or if he was in actual fact hinting that he is indeed in communication with Moffat ("he denied it, it must be true!")

Bit early for a season 7 thread isn't it. We haven't seen all of season 6 yet.

Isn't that a bit like saying "its a bit early for a hot scoop?" Its nothing to do with series six, so I just thought a dedicated thread would appropriate

Update: commenting on the various media stories circulating over Cohen's announcement, Steven Moffat said: "Dr Who: misquotes and misunderstandings. But I'm not being bounced into announcing the cool stuff before we're ready. Hush, and patience."

the problem is not one of these rumours has any actual fact behind it. They are all guesses and supposition based on more guesses.

I imagine nobody knows exactly how the future scheduling of the show is going to work out. The Private Eye article which spurred the BBC to promise a 14 episode series 7 probably also lead to a series of meetings going on at the moment where they're trying to figure out how they're going to schedule/make the next two year's worth of Who.
I've been hoping for a while that there's be a full series next year and then a series of specials for the anniversary year (following the three series then a series of specials pattern that Tennant had). I'd be happy if we got half series 7 in autum 2012, half in spring 2013 and then three or four specials for the anniversary, essentially having the same effect and giving them a clean slate for 2014.

Pretty sure he's not. TP made a comment on twitter about meeting someone for lunch about a top secret project to which someone asked if it was Moffat. He then sent about twenty tweets outright saying he had never had contact with Moffat in any way. Seemed like a genuine denial.
I'd give anything for it to be true though.

The current issue of Private Eye has a story about the current series of DW and the next one as well. They do report that Piers Wenger left and there are rumours that the current series was split because of budget overruns and the fears that they wouldn't complete production of all 13 episodes for Spring/Summer transmission; and there is a fear (unfounded?) that the last six may not be finished either in time for the Autumn, mucking up the DVD/BR release schedule in the run-up to Christmas. Seems Wenger and Beth Willis got rid of two producers, who were then invited back but refused the offer. The story continues that because of a budget short-fall that was the reason the Ood appeared in Neil Gaiman's episode instead of a new alien. Also BBC Wales, according to the story, have not commisioned a full series for next year, 2012, but four specials. Taking the fact that Matt Smith had signed on for a further 14 episodes does suggest some of the above is pure speculation or rumour?

Although I'd be surprised if Matt Smith was still playing the part in 2014.

An anniversary multi-Doctor story would also be a great way to introduce the twelfth Doctor.

I'd hoped it would have run as normal next year, then replace the series in 2013 with the often rumoured movie for its anniversary. It was a long shot, but I thought it would have been the perfect time.

I'm failing to see why a single movie would be preferable to a full TV series of 13 episodes.

Personally for 2013 I want the usual series I want every year (except when the Doctor/crew are changing, I can understand abnd accept that) plus a one off special which should for my book include more than one Doctor, if it had McGann as well I'd be over the moon as his Doctor was the most short changed of them all. If they really wanted to go big and with some style they could show as some of the Time War... that'd be way cool.

I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing Tenannt back for the 50th anniversary episode,he's willing and he kept one his costumes for such an occasion. I doubt Eccleston will come back.

Summary: The guy in the Deerstalker did it, in the office block, with the screwdriver.
