Michael Caine Movie??

Anyone know the name of a Michael Caine film in which he is dressed in an enemy army uniform and is mistakenly shot in the end of the film? I think it was Michael Caine. Though it could be someone else.

It's currently doing the rounds on SKY Cinema, if you're interested. It's good fun.

It's definitely "Play Dirty". Co-written by Melvyn Bragg and directed by the great Andre De Toth. Scorsese chose it as one of his ten Guilty Pleasures.

Scorsese's Guilty Pleasures were in Film Comment, Sep-Oct 1978. For a run of ten years Film Comment (for those who have never heard of it) was easily the best movie magazine in the world, with an inside and insightful track into the Hollywood of the "Movie Brats." Editor Richard Corliss had a wonderful array of writers and hit all the right notes with every issue. I have a run of this mag from 1970-1990.

Scorsese's list was -

Land of the Pharoahs
Khartoum
The Ten Commandments (1956)
The Silver Chalice
Giant
Hell's Angels
The Counterfeit Traitor
Play Dirty - "Right away you know you're in for something unique . . The characters have no redeeming social value, which I love."
Twelve O"Clock High
In Harm's Way
Lady in the Dark
My Dream Is Yours
The Man I Love
Always Leave Them Laughing
The Road to Zanzibar
Lost In A Harem
Abbott and Costello Go To Mars
House of Wax
The Uninvited
Frankenstein Created Woman
Exorcist II
One-Eyed Jacks
I Walk Alone
Night and the City
Station Six - Sahara
Dark of the Sun
Guns Don't Argue
Murder By Contract
The Magix Box

Anyone seen all these? I saw Scorsese's own King of Comedy yesterday, first time since its cinema release. Stunning. Prescient. An epic of cringe. His best movie, I think, certainly nothing remotely as good subsequent to it.

Quick heads up: Play Dirty is on BBC1 tonight at 12:20AM: unfortunately, it'll be a cropped 16:9 (from 2.35:1) but since Sky seems to have stopped showing their OAR transfer, it'll have to do ya...
