Question Best way to play/watch a 3D movie file in 3D ?

I've been googling, but due to differing setups and lots of outdated info, I'm now even more confused!

I've got a 3D movie file that I want to watch in 3D, and have various viewing options:

- new decent 1080p laptop and external Dell monitor (non-3D).
- VLC and SBS movie file (2x720).
- Android TV box (with access to android apps).
- decent but old Sony 32" TV (not 3D).
- active 3D specs.
- new projector Benq W1090 - 3D Compatibility‎ = Frame Sequential: 60Hz 720p / Frame Packing: 24 Hz 1080p / Side by Side: 24Hz 1080p / Top Bottom: 60Hz 1080p‎

So I can go from laptop or TVbox to TV or projector (ignore the audio).

Does my TV need to be 3D ? (It's not). If connect it to my laptop, using VLC it looks like I need the red/green anaglyph specs to view, right? (Which I don't have).

So I think I can go from laptop or TV box, and feed the 'unseparated' VLC movie to the projector, which should process the image (somehow) into 3D (and my projector needs active specs, not passive).

Make sense ?

You'd need to switch the projector to 3d mode and possibly tell it what kind of 3d source it's getting, SBS or top/bottom (based on my vague memory of doing it for my Optoma projector).
