I certainly like the look of it, looks like it's been filmed on proper film rather than digital which is amazing as imdb reckons it was filmed on an Alexa with a 4K DI.

Mostly very good reviews coming out, with the odd outlier such as Time Magazine only making me more eager to see it.

Bring on October!

Seems to have been reviewed a bit early, they must be happy with the film

Just back from it. Really well shot. It has real 70's New York film feel to it.

Glad the hype has died down a little as people may have high expectations.

Phoenix much like he was in You Were Never Really Here, is excellent as expected

Its very dark in tone and content. The best DC film since The Dark Knight. Well worth seeing

I liked it, not something I'd see again though.

Trailer pretty much shows too much of the film.

Was it me or did Arthur

Liked the ending in particular and nods to other films.

Saw it today and thought it was great, one of my favourites of the year. Joaquin was brilliant.

Excellent film, largely thanks to Joaquin Phoenix.

Only downsides were a couple of logic holes towards the end and the Batman tie in. Didn’t really need to go there for this film, I though

Excellent movie.

The
was OK I thought but the
seemed unnecessary and contradicts Nolan's trilogy but backs up Burton's version to a certain extent.

slightly off topic
watched this the other day, it was initially released as Poker Night (AKA The Joker)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Joker-Ron-P...1040028&sr=8-2

it's not bad, and having the alternate title of "the Joker" and the background of that character added a new dimension to the plot.

Utterly brilliant and really how you should do the Joker and serious comic book films. Hopefully DC can learn from this as they could create something really rather special.

It's incredible. It's amazing. It's utterly bleak and I have no desire to ever see it again.

Thought it was absolutely brilliant and utterly compelling. And the soundtrack helped re-enforce that. Cant wait to see it again. Goes without saying that Phoenix was phenomenal.

Really enjoyed it. It's incredibly well made and well acted, thought they tried to make it a little too prequely at the end but before that it wasn't a massively comic book film.

Can't imagine they'll go anywhere else with it tbh. Unless they try and do an early 90's Batman or something.

Brilliant film. Can’t believe that Phoenix won’t win something for that performance come awards season. Totally compelling film.

Picked this up from iTunes as we missed it in the cinema. I thought it was utterly brilliant. The way it was shot, the soundtrack, Phoenix' performance and the development of his character.

Like you say, I did find it a very tough watch due to what his character is going through and how he behaves. I will watch it again though, if only to try and work out

Having seen it now I'm not sure what all the fuss was about where people were saying it might incite violence - seems like the gutter press in America just trying to make something out of nothing and almost be wishing for something tragic to happen so they could pile-in on "movies are bad".

Nah, King of Comedy evoked the same paranoia back in the early 80s, and that was obviously both a different time and a much subtler film. Joker basically is King of Comedy for Dummies (with a sprinkling of Taxi Driver), with everything cranked up to 11 just in case someone watching it might actually think for themselves for one minute.

I agree. I sometimes wish I could do some sort of "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" to wipe certain movies from my head in order to appreciate ones that are so derivative. I enjoyed this a lot, it's arguable the best (non-animated) DC movie in the last ten years, however personally it just felt like I'd already seen it all before. I had a similar experience watching Midsommar the other night too.
