Pretty sure another trilogy was announced ages ago.

There will be plenty more trilogies but this should be the end of the Skywalker saga. The two producers of Game of thrones are doing one (I think based on the tales of the Jedi/old Republic) and one from the director of Last Jedi.

Rogue One made a profit of almost $750 million, according to Wikipedia. More than making up for the $50-80 million loss suffered by Solo.

It won't have made anything like that kind of profit, as the marketing budget would've been in the 10s of millions as well and after you factor in cinema cut as well it probably made $200-300 million profit. And with Hollywood accounting on paper it probably made a loss...

Holloywood Accounting, a practise as old as Holloywood itself. Where on the balance sheet movies appear to make little money or a loss for tax purposes or not paying out massive risiduals.

The problem for Solo, is it really wasn't that bad to bomb at the box office as it did. A SW film, Han Solo, not a bad film, it should be doing middling superhero numbers.

The concern going forward is that people are just a bit sick of Star Wars and whilst they were happy to spend the cash to see 9 films over the course of 40 years and see them as some sort of event, that isn't the case when they're chucking out 3/4 movies a year.

Basically you've got a base of SW fans, many of whom seem to have given Solo a miss.

I'm sure I read, when you factor in merchandise, rentals, DVD sales, TV money and so forth, no movies ever actually make a loss. I recall Waterworld limped into profit a few years back.

I remember getting goose bumps when the fanfare of TPM started up, never thought I'd see a new SW film and loved the originals. Now when it starts up, until SOLO bombed, I was probably going to get 3 movies a year for the rest of my life.

Don't recall exactly, I know much changed and they now seem to be doing some TV instead, but I recall there was about 13 SW films in production.

3 Solo Films
Rian Johnson Trilogy
Episode 9
Game of Thrones Trilogy
Boba Fett
Obi Wan
Yoda

Didn't Disney announce cancellation/hold on the standalone films?

Yes they did, presumably for the reasons mentioned above.

Not actually sure what is being developed anymore.

Obi Wan TV series
Some sort of Benihoff /Weiss penned trilogy (but now it's rumoured they're only writing one of the three)
Apparently a Rian Johnson trilogy is unfortunately still happening

That's it.

The game of thrones guys SW looks dead in the water in the light of the Netflix deal or their involvement will be fat less than hyped especially after the lackluster got ending etc etc

Latest rumors are that this is still undergoing live re shoots according to the usual Youtubers and its supposed to be released in 2 months

JJ Abrams fingers return to fiddle with his 2nd major franchise and depending on your point of view its been another failure

There's rumours about them 'testing' six different endings as well. More proof they have no idea what the **** they're doing.

The problem with these films is that they still make a mass of money so they'll carry on getting it wrong.

It's pretty normal to do that, especially now that films are delivered digitally, you can tinker right up to days before the release.

True I expect re-shoots but not this close to release and not to the extent that the rumors would suggest.

It should certainly not be the case for such a great director (as we are told he is, but I have yet to see the proof of it).

I follow several film news sites and this is the first I've heard of this.

I'm tempted to watch this on my phone but I'm staying strong and waiting until I get home to see it on the telly. Unfortunately, my Twitter timeline is full of screen grabs!

Music great.

Everything else meh.

You already get a sense of CGI set pieces over a well thought out narrative, I really hope I’m wrong.

Visually looks incredible. Going by the plot leaks I expect this to be nothing other than complete nonsense.
