We were talking about the different Pennywise before, I thought Skarsgard in pt 1 was excellent, Curry was great but I didn't think the TV series was particularly scary.

Don't have a problem with the effects in Pt 1, some of it was brilliant, eg. coming out of the fridge not so good in the sequel.

The opening sequence is brilliant, shame the rest couldn't match that.

How did they botch this?

There were times near the end when it felt like it was never going to end, it just kept going on and on...

Thought the beginning was particularly strong, and enjoyed parts of it, but the first part was so much better

Agreed about the overuse of cgi, and as for that ending

Shame as I saw it at the Odeon Leicester Square so at least the presentation was nice.

Hmm, might just wait to watch it at home then. The 1st wasn't particularly scary but I feel like I should watch this because I saw the first.

***MAY CONTAIN MINOR SPOILERS SO BE AWARE BEFORE READING***

Quick Q re: opening sequence which many seem to love... in an attempt to keep this spoiler free, when in the river and Pennywise first attacks... it's an adult and NOT a kid, which confused the hell out of me, isn't this breaking world rules right off the bat??

Maybe actually use the spoiler tags?

It’s not a case if It only attacks kids, It feeds on fear and kids are more susceptible so give off more fear.

I’m guessing the adult at the start was Adrian Mellon? From what I recall form the book he was very naive and trusting, so may have been more open to suggestions?

First thing I said to my missus when it finally ended was: "That had more endings than LOTR"

Based on all the reviews I had heard I was expecting this to be a disaster. But no, it's almost as good as the first film. The insane and wholly unnecessary length is the biggest issue, other than that the script is great and the actors are really good. A lot more scares than the first one.

Also did anyone else notice

The first film wasn't very good though...

I can't decide whether to actually go tomorrow to see it or just save myself 3 hours and just watch it at home.

Its rumoured to be out on US BD/4k UHD on 10th December - so with just 3 months to wait I've decided to hold off and get it to watch over the xmas period.

The first came out digitally over here on 1st Jan, so mid-December for US is probably about right.

Even though I loved the first and the book is one of my favourites, with all the mixed reviews and word of mouth on this one, I’ll probably wait and watch it at home too.

Chapter Two is now out to buy on iTunes and despite the negative reviews (although it’s 78% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes gives me hope) I think I’m going to get it as I really enjoyed the first one. Like others have said, I feel like I should see how this ends.

Watched it yesterday, after being put off a bit by the trailer, I really enjoyed it. Don’t think it’d as good as the first, but still pretty decent.

I'm glad I didn't bother with this at the cinema! Way too long for a "horror" film. I was incredibly bored thinking it must be finished soon and checked and there was still over 45 minutes left!

Boring second part, just goes on and on and on.

Appreciate the book is big, but it was such a let down after the great first.

I couldn't believe how dull this was, I just lost interest after 2 hours and it was still going! Judging by the box office compared to the 1st film, a lot of people couldn't be bothered to see it at the cinema.

Was the first part really that good? It was well cast, well performed, well made and enjoyably nostalgic but for me was nothing more than a half decent horror film. I don't find clowns scary at all so I don't think that the film worked hard enough to be frightening.

The main issue with both films is that Pennywise just isn't remotely scary. It's the typical problem with horror films (especially modern horror films), whereby the more you show the less scary it becomes. Tim Curry's version was much more scary and creepy, although I've never read the source material so I don't know which version is closer to the book.

I agree and all done with standard clown makeup rather than prosthetics and visual effects. I think that Bill Skarsgard is more than capable to rival Tim Curry but it was all lost with a silly design. Surely the whole point is that Pennywise is not scary to look at because he's friendly, silly circus clown and that is why the kids fall into his trap? Why would any kid approach a clearly non-human clown with a bulbous head and glowing eyes?

Agree with this it, it started good but then just went downhill fast.
