I dont have a proplem with star wars rebels designs at all. They've gone for a stylised design which works well for the show. Realistic cgi would be near impossible to do on the time and budget without looking all uncanny valley. Thunderbirds designs are just so bland and uninteresting. I teach concept art and I used the new Thunderbirds as an example in a character design lesson and they fail all the basic character design rules.

There's something about the style that suggests an attempt to de-sexualize characters to make them suitable from the designers point of view for children's viewing by giving them almost childish features.

Have to agree 100% - I was very excited by the news and the first pictures of the models and sets - but this trailer and the awful looking CGI characters has let me down immensely.

Character design is more down to the artistic choices then budget. And with ever more faster computers making them look more realistic doesn't take much. My desktop can render the latest Tomb Raider visuals in real time!

Yeah I remember watching that on Children's BBC. I could never understand why the show was now animated and set in the future but I enjoyed watching the cool hardware designs.

I'm glad you said it was CBBC too, as I was sure it was on there, yet Wiki claims it was ITV.

When I was a boy it was always CBBC as they had the best shows, e.g. Dogtanian, Cities of Gold, Ulysess 31 etc and I'm sure they had TB2086 as I very rarely watched CITV. They had nothing I liked.

EDIT: Quick Google. Can't get more definitive than this! :-)

I love Thunderbirds 2086 as a kid, seemed more grown up and cooler then the puppets

Went straight to CITV to look for it but its on ITV instead at 5pm. Makes sense as they need to get as much buzz for it ASAP before moving it over to CITV. No serieslink so maybe the week after.

Yeah - despite it only being a few days away, ITV schedule for that day is full of holes on Tivo.

Just watching the documentary, it was quite informative in a Newsround sort of way. I like the animation tbh, it's fairly modern, trying to be a bit Ben10 or SW Rebels.

Only watched 1 min. Going to see it later but the voice acting seems bad...really bad.
