I remember seeing a Chinese copy of windows called Windows 97, think it was Windows Me actually on the CD. Had proper box, stickers on CD and everything.

It is gonna be free to 7 and 8 users then! Nice.

Now the question is... can I get two copies from owning 7 and 8?

Hmm, still not sure I want to use it as the preview made it seem like Windows 8.2.

Good question. Have 7 and 8 also
Will it be serial key based
Will it be possible to do full clean install

*shrug* Windows 8.1 is great. An incremental improvement on that is fine by me.

I gave the Windows 7 key that I used to upgrade to 8 to my Dad. I wonder if I can upgrade both of them so we both have 10.

It's a pain to support if you work in heavy IT environment. The mismatch approach to the interface is a nightmare, the random features missing that were easy to find in 7. It's just simple things I find annoying.

I really wanted 10 to be what they got wrong with 8 but it seems they're just not getting it.

We have a lot of students at work that get their free copy of 8/8.1 and then a week later they come back asking how they can remove it and go back to 7.

I bet that suddenly makes the combined Windows App Store a hell of a lot more attractive to developers.

The BBC will probably still ignore it as an app platform, mind:

Really really impressed by what I've seen tonight, and only seen little bits of it.

Seems like Msoft are really pulling it all together in a great way, with some amazing products designed to actually get things done, and not just for the "look cool" factor.

The Xbox one linking with a PC or Tablet. Even allowing Apps to run on all the devices.
Really really looks like the start of a whole new tied together system with now all the products in place.

Phone, PC's, Laptops, Tablets, Console, Fitness product, with new future hardware also.

As some said, it was a long slow burn to begin with, but feels from what they'd shown tonight this is going to be the new beginning of something BIG and going to be in it, and sticking with it for the long run.

Other companies have bits here, bits there, but Microsoft seem to have the bases all covered on the physical items so far, and now using their software skills, and they ARE a software company foremost to tie it all in to working together.

Looking very good.

But don't Apple already do this?

No. MacOS X and iOS apps are separate. No automatic adaptation of the OS based on whether it's in touch or mouse/keyboad mode. No games console streaming. No holographic interface. Etc...

On another note, it's rumoured that Spartan browser will support extensions originally written for Chrome.

Not a hope in hell that's even remotely representative of what it will be like in reality.

Yeah, it looks amazing on the videos they've released, but you know it'll never be anything like that. It kind of reminds me of those videos they released a few years back with projection mapping around the room to make the Xbox more emmersive, but even better. Probably like the Google Glass videos always looked better than it probably turned out to be.

Windows 10 is looking good, I imagine we'll be able to get a free version per genuine 7 or 8 license, so I should be able to upgrade my laptop and desktop, but I can't see anywhere where they've said about versions.

I have Windows 8 Pro on my laptop (bought version) and Windows 7 Ultimate (from a friend's volume license) - are they doing Home, Pro, Ultimate, etc again?

don't be so sure about that, the people who have actually tried it have said it is really really good.

here's one for example.

I would love it to be that good, I just can't see it being anywhere near as sharp and vivid, or as responsive as in those videos. I hope I'm wrong though!

Could potentially be a huge boost for Xbox if they integrate it into that too.
