Do any of you guys know where Apple Music and Google Play store the media files? I want to make sure when they've gone they're not using up valuable storage space.

Well, I think I[m giving up on Apple Music, although the catalogue is decent, the buggy app is too distracting.

I seem to get a lot of albums where one track will stubbornly refuse to download (usually a favourite!).

I'm going to try Spotify next. Shame as I was going to get the good value Family sub with Apple, Spotify's is a bit less generous.

It seems each service has it's own specific issues, making none of them ideal.

That happens to me occasionally on AM - for some reason Field Music's newest won't download the opening song but the rest is fine.

I also hate that I can add an album that's not released that might have a track or two available but when the album's released the songs don't unlock, I have to delete the album then re-add it.

Google Play Music for uploading your own music is a pain!

Basically they substitute your music with existing versions on the servers to save space. This means you end up with albums with fluctuating volume levels, or studio versions of live performances. It is supposedly fixed by right clicking on the song and selecting "Fix incorrect match", but it could take a day or two to upload your music if at all.

I was using this as a kind of back up but now I don't trust it at all. At least I know now why they are so generous with their storage limits.

There seems to be genuine discussion about the long-term viability of the various download services. Download sales (as opposed to streaming) are plummeting (ie. downloads in France dropped by 21% 2014-15) and while it varies from territory to territory, the line on the graph is generally downwards.

A sale is still a sale but the talk seems to be whether the big players (esp. Apple) will accelerate the switch to a streaming only service - and what this means for the music people have downloaded. (You do see stories about various services over-writing music in people's collections with the 'wrong' version, that kind of thing - I don't know how much of an issue that is though.)

It does seem that streaming is the future for the majority. My main gripe streaming services is how most of my money ends up with the big already rich artists I don't listen to and only a fraction to the artists I do listen to.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to all those inferior quality mp3s and aacs people have paid for years in the future, especially when they're locked into specific eco-systems.

Amazon and Pandora are rumoured to be making announcements this week apparently.

Amazon to announce some kind of Spotify/Apple/Google Music competitor. Not sure what they're going to have that will tempt people away from paying for those three though, unless they bundle or reduce it for Prime payers.

Pandora expected to announce new options to their current service, and are expected to announce a proper $10/£10 a month service by the end of the year. That I am very eager to hear more about. After they bought Rdio last year, if they can provide a service that was as good as Rdio but with their unique Pandora style radio service in there as well (where you can build your own stations by selecting various artists - no one else offers this and it works so well for eclectic personalised mixes) that would be awesome.

Isn't that Amazon Music?

I seem to have settled on Spotify, it isn't perfect but it's the least imperfect of the bunch!

No, not their current limited music service that's free for Prime payers, they're expected to be launching a full blown Spotify-esque service;

Ah yes, I forgot it was Prime only.

I'd be happy to give it a try, I'd need to go back in this thread to remind myself what I didn't like about Prime Music

It's a bit crap. Just playlists and artist stations, nowhere near as comprehensive as the other full streaming service.

The Prime Music app updated recently. I find it "fine" but nothing to write home about.
I pay for the Amazon cloud storage thingy and put all my MP3s on there a couple of years ago. It integrates quite nicely with that, so the Prime Music has effectively extended my collection and I'm less aware of the limited variety on the service.

I HAVE had the ******* annoying replacement of MY music with their version - most notably with Beastie Boys' Ill Communication, where the version in *my* cloud storage suddenly became the radio friendly version while the streaming cloud version was unedited.

Left Spotify before all the discover weekly took off but the Apple Music version added into iOS10 - 'My New Music Mix' isn't too bad.

We just got Apple Music (free trial) but don't like the app at all. I thought I would also be able to use iTunes on my iPad to get songs and they would just be free (like free apps) but that's not the case.

Also I love radio 1 live lounge albums but they are not on it for some reason and yet they are on iTunes, I thought you got everything on iTunes.

EDIT: Now my Music has been matched/uploaded from iTunes, do i still need it on my local HD?

Just got the email for the UK release of Amazon Music Unlimited & its £7.99/month for Prime users & £9.99 for non-Prime.

No mention of Echo owners getting a further discount (I'd read it would be around £3.99/month)?

Just checked their website & there is indeed a Echo only option (no access via the app, only through the Echo) for £3.99/month.

I think an Echo plus Music Unlimited will be the ideal Xmas present for my Mum.

Now just to wait for the Echo to drop in price in the Black Friday sales...

Am I being thick and just can't see what's in front of my face but does Apple Music not have a search for playlist feature?

Was feeling spectacularly un-festive yesterday whilst wrapping presents (the irony) and felt like some cheesy 90's Rap / RnB (Don't judge - En Vogue was the bomb yo!)

The only search results were NOW compilation albums.

Is this where Spotify rules over Apple Music?

It's definitely where Google music rules. It's obsessed with suggesting play lists.
