Spotify: The future of music? [now with mobile app]

Have you guys heard of Spotify? It's like a lightweight version of iTunes, where everything streams instantly for free.

All the major labels are in their database, so pretty much every musical taste is catered for. The free accounts are supported by ads, so every 4th or 5th song, they play a 10-20 second advert. Paying £9.99 a month gets rid of the ads, but I'm currently just using the free service as the adverts aren't that frequent/annoying.

I am absolutely loving it at the moment, I think it is best music service I have ever used.

Let me know what you think, If you would like an invite send me an email to timjbart at the company which doesn't want to be evil

I have sent 3 invites, I think they are doing some kind of recommendation system, but they haven't spent much time on it.

Do you get 5 invites when you register so you can share them out? I am running a bit low!

Another good feature that we'll have to use is collaborative playlists, where we can all add songs to a shared list.

Ta for the invite ! 0 invites on my account thus far, maybe it adds up when you've done stuff or just over time...

Just a quick 10 minute play, instant song loading (bonus), the gui is actually sensible, good quality (not brilliant but I have flac my CDs).

Sent an email too, but don't worry too much if you have run out or want to keep a few back as spare.

It certainly looks a very useful service, and I would use it a lot, I reckon.

I have invited everyone that emailed me. I have used up my own quota, and I have 1 left on my Dads account.

I think they add them all in bulk every now and again, because I have had an account since before Christmas and had 10 invites in total.

Looks good already. Last.fm support built in which is good and also the Greasemonkey script for Firefox works well. It adds a green musical note next to artists / songs on the Last.fm website. Just click it to open up the available songs for that artist in Spotify.

Yeh I hook my laptop up to my hifi and just set a Spotify play list going.

This is a good site: http://www.spotifyfriends.com/

I also usually have it on at work for when I get bored with my MP3s

Loving it so far

Currently reading Can't Stop Won't Stop so I am using Spotify to bring up tracks mentioned in the book which I haven't heard.

It is all too easy to spend ages just browsing around for b-sides and whatever you have not heard before by artists I already own stuff by
