Sisters of Mercy re-issues [old goth thread]

For a band that make Guns 'n' Roses appear prolific, it was interesting to see their old material finally get a proper re-release (out this Monday).

HMV have all three for a goth-tastic £6.99 each.

The existing CD of the 1st album used inferior tapes and fans always said the vinyl sounded better. Hopefully this will be an improvement. I still rank this as one of my favourite LPs of all time and one of the few truly great albums of the genre. Any other votes for The Cult's 'Dreamtime'? Others?

floodland was completely awesome, and is a classic, but i guess my fav has to be "some kind of stranger" off the first album.

oh and the cults "Love" is a classic 2.

That takes me back a bit. I've just remembered how I had a bit of a crush on Patricia Morrison when Floodland came out.

i almost did 2, which was most disturbing for me hehe.

oh just looking at the details - floodland has their version of Emma, which is totally wicked, colours off the sisterhood album (which should be bought if your into them), and torch which is quite good 2.

i couldnt get into the 3rd album as much - it wasnt quite as bleak sounding, but it is good!

I seem to remember a track called 'Adrenachrome' or something like that which I thought was pretty good, what album/single is that on?

Colors and Torch were on the original CD release weren't they? (They are on mine anyway).

Am tempted by the re-release of First And Last... the extra tracks on that are good.

Along with Alice, Adrenochrome was/is my favourite Sisters song. It was originally the b-side of Body Electric but, as mentioned above, is also available on the Some Girls Wander compilation.

Alice was one of the tracks that made me pick up a 4 string back in my early days ... there's £21 that will be well-spent

I've got the commercial release of the Some Girls Wander, but I've also got the original 'Enter The Sisters' promo pressing from donkeys years ago, and someplace old miniCD with Emma and Ghostrider.

Keep hoping against hope that AE will see fit to present us with some new material at some point this millenium ...

What is really annoying is that Von has been playing new stuff on tours for years but just doesn't seem inclined to record them. The recent tour was generally well received so hopefully he may have a change of heart

As for these resissues I've been doing some hunting around the Sisters forums and there the genreal consensus is that these won't be remastered but a lot of the bonus tracks have never been on CD before so could be worth getting.

Don't know about that. There's a half-page advert in this month's Record Collector that seems to imply (from memory) these are new masters.

It's possible they have been remastered but it appears that Von has not been involved with these releases which is a shame if true. Anyway these do look like good releases and I really do hopt that FALAA is better than the original CD as I have always wanted a decent version on CD.

I believe Rhino is owned by Time-Warner who own the rights to the Sisters back Catalogue
