Well the live action Mad Max 4 rumors return...

Charlize Theron is ready to go beyond Thunderdome. Mel Gibson, not so much.

Multiple sources tell E! News that the Oscar-winning babe is director George Miller's pick to play the lead female role in the upcoming, Mel-less Mad Max 4.

When he announced that he would begin work on the sequel back in 2007, Miller admitted Gibson was too old for the antihero role of "Mad" Max Rockatansky, and said, "I don't think he would be interested in being involved at all."

Instead, Miller is looking at little-known Brit Tom Hardy, whose credits include Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers, to play opposite Theron.
Tom Hardy! Charles Bronson to be Mad Max!!!1111

Now mentioned in The Hollywood Reporter .

Honestly, I'm not writing off Mel Gibson starring in this just yet. Before, the project was just speculation (well, since the 2003 cancellation anyway) but now that it's looking greenlit we'll see.

Looks like it's confirmed that Hardy is the new Mad Max.

Watched Mad Max 2 on Blu-ray last night, first time I'd seen it in twenty odd years. Still fantastic and it showed what could be achieved with very brave stuntmen and at a time when CGI, as we know it now, didn't exist. Hope we get the real stuff like it was in those days.

How's the BD look? I've not seen this since the big plastic boxed VHS edition was a 'must see' at school!

Awesome IMO. One of the best Blu-rays I've seen.

Is'nt that the same Tom Hardy from Martha Cole's THE TAKE recently on SKY ONE?

From the BRONSON trailer it seems that this fellow is just a little too keen on playing psycho-loonies because his role on THE TAKE shows him to be capable of a very edgey and unpredictable performance.

Interesting.

Seconded (missed replying) and all the better, sounding like a broken record, for being shot in genuine anamorphic Panavision and just the old chemical colour timing and filters used when filmed.

But George Miller seems up for Fury Road; just wonder if he was really giving a wink that they were trying to get Gibson back, probably a fantasy but I would like to see old Mel back in the action hero mode.

Is the Blu-Ray release the uncut version of Mad Max 2? Used to have that on VHS but I don't think they ever released it uncut on DVD (at least as far as I ever found). One of my favourite movies of all time. The stunt work is simply outstanding.

Project looks to be filming in the next few weeks, in Namibia with Tom Hardy.

But does anyone else think Gibson would have been especially perfect for this, aside from him having created the role?

He first played the part aged 21 and if anyone looks to have been surviving in a post-apocalyptic wilderness for 30 years it's Mel Gibson! The contrast would've been startling, but appropriate.

Thomas Jane would have been a great fit.
