Die Hard 4.0 uncut question.

Hello, friends.

Quick question for ya... Does anyone know where I can get the UNCUT version of Die Hard 4.0 (AKA Live Free Or Die Hard) on bluray, please?

There are so many different releases out there I'm losing track of which is which. I'm in the UK, but my BD player is multi-region, so it doesn't have to be a UK release.

I have sent a tweet to 20th Century Fox UK asking them, so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Die Hard 4.0 uncut question.

There are a few choices.

Australia : The JBHifi exclusive 5 film boxset (now OOP - this is what I have).
There is a general release 5 film boxset which came out in Australia this year, not sure if in that.

Germany : OOP 5 film Amazon.de exclusive boxset.

US : The gift set with model of Nakatomi Tower. The first two films at least are RA locked.

My understanding is it has never been released standalone anywhere. Is in a very few boxsets and gift sets but never in UK.

Is it an uncut version though or an "enhanced" version? Seems like they filmed it for the lower certificate and digitally added some higher cert stuff later, no?

It was prepared for the DVD as was filmed as PG13. So CGI blood and overdubbing although the most famous catchphrase ends at motherf as it’s then drowned out by an explosion.

This contrasts to DH5 which was filmed at R, cut to PG13 for cinema then released at R on BD.

Back to DH4, Fox remastered the BD in 2015 giving choice of theatrical or uncut. But then only released via JBHifi and Amazon.de exclusives. Then US model followed in 2016. I have never understood why Fox haven’t exploited this more widely. Maybe when we see the inevitable UHD 4K release probably around release of next film DH6.

Warning that link is to the DVD version.

I presume like me you have the BD version which is what the OP wants and that’s now sold out.

The BBFC did pass an "extended version' (which I am assuming is the uncut version) way back in 2013: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/die-hard-40-6

Still no luck finding it.

Thanks to everyone that has offered suggestions. I already own the first four movies (not get me started on Die Hard 5!), so don't really want to buy the boxset again just to have the uncut version of DH4.

From memory the "uncut" version was clearly done as an after thought and the film was made with pg13 in mind right from the start. You're really not missing much by watching the normal theatrical version.

The uncut is definitely on most of the 2 disk SE DVDs from back in the day. Only exception was Scandinavia as they got the DVD early and the uncut edit wasn’t finalised in time for their release.

I really can’t understand why Fox don’t upgrade to the newer master with uncut version in UK and other countries especially as the film is reissued every couple of years.

Same as Paramount who reissued the same crappy masters with only lossy audio for Mission Impossible 1 to 3 at the time films 4 and 5 came to BD, when they have new masters with lossless audio and a better encode but have decided randomly only to release in Scandinavia, Italy (films 1 & 2 only) and Hong Kong.

The uncut version is horrible in my opinion. The added CGI blood looks terrible and most of the swearing is added on afterward in ADR. Also, one of my favorite lines is completely removed.

After John takes down the helicopter with the car outside the tunnel the conversation goes like this:

'Matt' Farrell: You just killed a helicopter with a car!
John McClane: I was out of bullets.

In the "uncut" version is changed to completely different take.

'Matt' Farrell: You just killed a helicopter with a car!
John McClane: Hundreds of thousands of people get killed by cars every year. That's just like four more.

I bought the unrated DVD on day one of release. I've only watched it once and have never touched it since.
