Star Trek: Into Darkness

US fans anger over Star Trek Rip Off ( from digi spy)

Quote:

US Star Trek fans have been angered by the upcoming Blu-ray release of Star Trek Into Darkness.

The bonus features on the basic disc for JJ Abrams' sequel, which stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch, are comprised of just seven featurettes.

However, a number of other features have been made but are not available on the Blu-ray sold by most physical and online vendors.

Instead, extra features have been marketed as 'retailer exclusives' and are only available from the versions sold in Target and Best Buy stores.

To see all the bonus features, including extended scenes and trailers, viewers would have to collect all three discs. A commentary by director JJ Abrams has also been recorded but has to be bought separately via iTunes.

Fansite Trek Core has a complete list of the features available on each retailer's version of the disc.

It is currently unclear whether the extra bonus features will be available to UK fans, although Sainsbury's list their own retailer exclusive disc which contains the same special features as Target in the US.

Star Trek Into Darkness is released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 2 in the UK, and September 10 in the US.

I have ordered mine from Amazon simply because that is what I usually do. OTC retail prices ate usually higher.

There's a simple solution. Don't buy it. Those retailer exclusives will soon go away then.

Rent it now and wait as there'll be a SE somewhere down the line.

I decided to go for the 2D US version so I get the nice slip and the film on DVD. Having no slip would stick out as all my other Trek bu rays have one.

I will double dip if a SE came out with all the extras and the Imax switching ratio.

The PQ and AQ is supposed to be demo material.

I've just had a peek at the Sainsburys website. I like the way that those forking out more for the 3D version don't get the exclusive bonus disc. Thanks Sainsburys!

Not being bothered about extras I got me Mum and Dad to pick this up for me on Blu from Tesco this morning

Now I went to the cinema to see it in Imax but despite what many may say, in this day and age it is still possible for films to remain spoiler free, especially if you are like my Dad who rarely goes online and has no interest in word of mouth etc

Its just a shame the designers of the case and case art etc decided to mention a certain characters name more than once, thus ruining the surprise for the likes of me Dad

Picked up the bluray over the weekend (dispatched early from Zavvi).

My cinema trips are limited these days due to kids, and appreciate you’d probably have to have your head in the sand for the past 6 months to have avoided word of the John Harrison ‘twist’ by now, but I had still tried this…yet they give all this way in the blurb on the back of the packaging!!

With all these different versions going about heres another one to add the mix.

A strictly limited edition of one. It contains a real piece of 497 year old meteorite carved into the shape of the Star Fleet symbol.

Anyone know if the Star Trek/Star Trek Into Darkness double pack has the extras from the first version of the the Star Trek blu ray? I missed it the first time round as my wife bought me the USB stick version instead for my birthday (nice USB stick, terrible picture quality!)

The US version came with a transparent slip that was part of the artwork.

I don't think the UK versions came with a slip. I've never seen one.
