Cliffhanger Blu-Ray Cut or Uncut?!
Hi there, I was wondering which is the best release to go for???
REGION A (SONY) v REGION B(OPTIMUM) Blu Ray for Cliffhanger? - I have read a few bits and am basically confused now....

The UK Blu Ray is Uncut- and is identical to the Uncut Region 1 Sp. Ed Dvd.
( I checked myself by playing them both side by side).
In terms of picture quality etc, I haven't seen the US disc- but I was certainly disappointed by the picture quality on much of the UK disc- as the picture didn't 'pop' out in the way that the best Blu Rays tend to do.

UK version also has reversed left and right audio, e.g. a helicopter flies off to the right and the sound comes from the left. Annoyed the hell out of me, so the UK one was sold and I got me the US one.
I think the PQ is lovely, but then I'm not expecting 3D 'pop' from every single Blu-ray I buy.

Can't really add much, the only reason to get the US (region free) release is because the audio is the right way around like others have said.
I picked up the Uk disc cheap and sold it last year plan to get the US release sometime. Pretty poor on Studio Canal's part for not pulling the disc and fixing the audio especially since the UK blu must be getting on for three years old this year.
You could of course swap the speaker wires over on your ap and fix the audio that why, but why should you have too just for one film.

Not that I'm excusing the faulty audio on the UK disc, but is it the entire left and right audio that is reversed, or just the rear left and right channels (which is what I thought)?

The front left and right channels are the ones reversed IIRC.

Ah right, so it sounds like it's really screwed up then even if you don't listen to it through a surround system

If you can live the the audio issue it is currently deal of the day at Zavvi. Not bad for £4.45.
Deal of the day.

I was aware of the problem & conciously listened out for it, but didn't notice anything. It's old age, my ears must be going!

I ended up getting the UK disc a couple of days ago as I'd ordered it before hearing about the sound issue. Just finished watching it tonight and have to say I didn't notice any sound issues at all, however I only have a decent stereo system, not a surround one so that may be why. I thought it looked excellent as well for a slightly older title, by far the best I've ever seen it looking. And it's a pretty damn good film too, think I like it more as time goes on

New restored version making its way on Blu-Ray and 4k
Not sure if it will be uncut, always preferred the American version with the extra bits of violence.

The UK had the cuts waved years ago. There is no difference between the US and UK versions now. What we want now is a the workprint released on blu ray so we can have all the good bits back in.
