Hulk

Well first scores are in in Total Film this month.

A very creditable 4 out of 5 with a comment that Ang Lee has created the first arthouse blockbuster with his superb character driven piece.

Their only criticism appears to be that it could fall between two schools with the intelligent crowd annoyed by the explosions and rest annoyed by the talking.

Very much looking forward to it now.

That the CG is perfectly good but that it was always impossible to create a 15 foot green monster. Accept that it’s a representation of the figure at the centre of the story and suspend disbelief and it’s almost as good as Gollum.

I don't buy this "the Hulk doesn't really exist so it will always look fake" excuse. The Alien Queen, the Predator the T-1000 and many other movie creations also don't exist in the real world but the filmakers managed to make me suspend by disbelief.

Is it just me or, when you see the trailer, do others think "Looks like Shrek is going to have a career in Hollywood after all"!

Also gets 4/5 in Empire, though they say the Hulk himself is 'for now the benchmark for a fully integrated CGI character'.

I agree to an extent. The main problem is with our own brains of course. We can’t doubt Gollums skin texture, not the metallic appearance of the T1000 because we’ve never seen one. The Alien Queen and indeed the Aliens benefited from excellent realtime models and when they tried CGI in Alien 3 it was woeful.

Now I’m not saying a 15 foot green man is normal but it’s still a green man meaning we will be far far more observant and picky than with any other object.

My brother saw it when he was in New York last week and was decidedly unimpressed. He described it as mind-numbingly boring rather than awful.

The Hulk in comics is 7' 2" and weighs 1000 pounds so why bother making a supposedly serious film where a man grows to 15' tall.........and still his trousers fit! You could have stuck to the storyline and charectalization of the early comics, ala Spiderman, and still have had drama and action. I think box-office reciepts will show the producers Ang Lee is an arty farty flash in the pan and in kung-fu history 'Crouching Tiger' will have little respect.

Ive hear one obvious problem with the Hulks CGi is that he seems a different shade of green in every sceen. Sometimes looking bright green.!! He also moves to fast for his bulk in some sceens.
CGi still has along way to go.
Im still realy looking forward to it

He is different according to his bulk apparently. The bulk is explained by taking on amounts of water. So at the begining he's 9 foot and pale green and as he gets larger he gets greener.

The Hulk cannot fly in any of the comics but he can jump a mile or so..........I assume he was jumping out of the sea.

Yes. As I understand it the more anger the larger he is and the greener he is. Starts off at about 9 foot and gets to 15. When he returns to "normal" size he sheds water.
