Just watched this, very good film. Great job by Riz Ahmed... And the sound design is extraordinary!

Also watched it this week, thought it was an alright film. Was expecting Ahmed to get involved in the sound controls, being from the music industry you woudl think he would be good at tweaking them. Seemed a bit too self-obsessed as a character to me.

Oh yeah! Lol. A true classic... Knew it reminded me of something. Any other films in the musicians going deaf genre?

Trying to sweep up the remaining films that have been up for the big awards this Sunday and I finally caught Judas and the Black Messiah, which is a good film but my response to it was pretty ambivalent if I'm being honest. I think my main problem is that I've kinda hit that Bill Burr point of being "all out of white guilt" due to all the films coming out of Hollywood that feature racism as a central theme combined with my own non-contemporary viewing choices having a tendency to touch upon similar themes (and to be clear: This is not me moaning about these films being made, just that my exposure has reached saturation point and I need a break ), but I think what did the most damage for me was watching United States vs. Billie Holiday - which is an absolute garbage film that doesn't even attempt to adhere to any real facrs about Ms. Holiday's life or offer any real insight and has the most hilariously stupid evil white racist villains practically twirling their moustaches in the background of scenes (headed up by Garret Hedlund, who for some inexplicable reason was cast as Harry J Anslinger without any make up to age him accordingly).

So I ended up watching Judas with a very cynical mindset and seriously questioned the veracity of the events in the movie and the way the FBI is portrayed, I mean the things that go down in this film are so OTT that I was struggling to believe that such blatant and violent racism could have been in effect even back in the deeply racist times of late 60s America, and I was thinking we could firmly be back in USvsBH territory here of just making **** up as they go, but to the film's credit most of what they portray seems to be pretty faithful to the reality, with only minor fluffing of crazy **** law enforcement officers were doing back in the day.

^ reading on IMDB, sounds like this set is the weakest in the Jefferies cannon (and has also been cut).

EDIT
I recently watched Daniel Sloss's 2 Netflix shows (best watched in order) - very good, and an unusual but well-crafted mix of offence and woke.

I know Stowaway is getting panned on IMDB but I enjoyed the heck out of it. It's very slow but you are never bored and the gravity of the situation is always hanging in the air with real steaks and impossible decisions.

Although I do think it's a one time watch only kind of film.

Watched stowaway on Netflix tonight. Great cast, set on a space station built for 3 but a 4th comes along. Was more a thinking movie than an action one.

6 or maybe 7 out of 10.

I thought Stowaway was a barely watchable, miserable stinker - for 75% of the running time, it was a competent cast standing on their marks in front of static cameras trying their best with a dull script, rehearsing on set waiting for a director to show up. I haven't seen a worse-directed film in ages. Apart from the action sequences, which were a nice change because they showed people, you know, moving for a few minutes, it was completely inert. Kaputt, as they say in Germany. Dead on launch. And I won't go into the errors, I don't have the time.

Thank you - I hadn't heard of him before, but I've just watched the first and he's superb.

Don't read this spoiler if you've not seen it.

You need the super premium account to see that cut -

Watched a few episodes of Shadow & Bone. First episode is almost incomprehensible but it does enough to make you watch the second and by the 3rd I was hooked. Looked beautiful and seems to have a well crafted world and history.

More The Witcher then Game of Thrones.

More interesting than the film....

I thought the film was ok.. but the ending was fairly lame. Plus actors always play astronauts overly melodramatic, where I feel the professionals that actually work in space always seem more stoic and pragmatic.

Whereas I tried Shadow and Bone this week, found the acting lacking and also the script. Wont be trying another, although the monster was cool, but generally found it dull and unengaging - mainly because I found actors bad and taking me out of it and also the formulaic dullness of the script.

Was thinknig earlier could do with an acting awareness chart, where you have a list of series/movies with the level of acting is in a declining level of ability and you find where you are on the chart. Am aware start to notice it more as I get older.

Can't say the I found the acting bland, maybe if I had only seen the first episode. But last night I watched 4 and final today and really enjoyed it and hopefully there will be a second series.

It's got a 8.1 on IMDB, 85% RT for critics and 95% RT audience rating so seems to be doingv well.

It's no Game of Thrones but it's jolly good fun.
