[Netflix] Black Spot

Anybody seen Black Spot on Netflix?

Nearly finished S1 and it's one of the best things I've seen for ages.

It's a French series set in the town of Villefranche in a remote forested area. Very Twin Peaks-ish, but the female lead also gives it a Bridge/Killing vibe. Lots going on - new DA arrives to investigate the six-times national average death rate and there's a different case each week, but it all links back to a "something's wrong deep in the woods" kind of thing and there are constant flashbacks to something the police chief suffered 20 years ago.

Throw in some top-notch cinematography, lots of shots of misty mountains and forests and a spooky banjo-driven soundtrack and it's got me hooked.

We just started this on your recommendation and I agree - it's extremely good.

We're watching subtitled with original language - does anyone else have an issue that sometimes the subs seem to lag slightly and flash up extremely quickly at the end of some sentences? Almost subliminal in their speed.

I got the impression that some of the dialogue was so fast that they were changing the subtitles fast but never considered that there was a lag.

Having said that, it didn't affect my understanding of enjoyment so it can't have been that bad.

Glad you are enjoying it. We're having a bit of a breather before watching S2.

My wife and I are giving this a go too and enjoying it so far! It’s pretty dark and grim at times, but then there are moments of light relief which are amusing and very welcoming too!
We really enjoyed the cave seen between Teddy bear and Mr Bean (the DA)

I will add it, I have enjoyed a few French things on Netflix (one about a serial killer pls woman?, sone things about a village cut off from civilisation by a road bridge breaking)

That’s the trouble, I forget the French names very quickly (la something was the first one, the butterfly or the insects)

French series on Netflix, watched Lupin recently, reminded me of Sherlock, fourth ep I found a bit wanting but the rest enjoyed.

Watched La Revolution, wasn't impressed, watch The Kingdom (Korean) instead.

My favourie would be Marianne, which was really strong and creepy to start with.

Thinknig aobut trying Call My Agent after Joanna LUmley upped it on national telly. Never got around to trying Entourage yet, don't know which is better, but Call My Agent is obviously more current.

Yes Lupin is excellent. Just wish they’d hurry up and add the next five episodes.

Glad people are enjoying Black Spot.

I have finished season 1 and so onto season 2 in a few weeks time.

The dubbing is slightly odd at times, more in terms of levels of sound (a hello on the stairs to a random passer by was at normal level of conversation with key people)
