Just read on on bbc.co.uk that Barry Nelson, the first actor to play Bond on live action (Casino Royale for TV, 1954) has died aged 89. I think, if memory serves, his first Bond was American and, even more shockingly, called 'Jimmy'.
Probably best remembered these days as Stuart Ullman, the Overlook manager, in The Shining. His scenes, especially in the office, are great. His acting is so natural, so un-movie like, with Jack Nicholson sitting across from him talking naturally too but looking like a total loon (a good hour before he's supposed to).
