Has there been an R2 announcement for the new boxset?

The artwork for FMJ sucks in my opinion. Nothing compared to the classic poster and just makes it looks like your average 80s 'nam' flick (which FMJ is anything but). 2001 is not to my taste either. Doesn't give it that epic look and unfortunately reminds me of the old ghastly pan&scan VHS cover.
Edit: Hmm, just saw the HD DVD and Blu-Ray of FMJ in Tesco (of all places) and they have the proper cover. Much better. Is the one shown on the DVD Times article just for the boxed set? It's that one that sucks.

The one you saw in Tescos is the old HD/Blue-ray release which came out in 2006. The new one hasn't been announced for R2 yet.
& I'm confused by your comments on the new artwork. It's very similar to the old one. The old dvd art (& theatrical poster) was just the image of the helmet on a white background. The new art is just the same image of the helmet on a black background. The only other thing they've changed is the title font.

It's the one here with the jungle background...
http://dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=65400
The helmet isn't even the same image, it's just a similar helmet drawn from the front instead of side. Looks drawn to me anyway, don't think it's a photo, which is also what I find looks cheap about it. Looks like the cover of a tacky novel.
The original is plain, stark and simple. Befitting the film. Not to mention it's the classic accepted cover used since the 80s that everyone identifies with the film so easy to recognise in a shop.

The bright new cover for FMJ looks much better than the drab old sleeve art which conveys IMHO the drab hi-def transfer the film received on the 2006 release.

I stand corrected. Was looking at the new regular dvd covers linked on the previous page: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=65399
You're right, the new HD/Blu-ray one is horrible!

It's strange that FMJ departs so noticeably from the iconic poster art, whereas it's business as usual for the others (to varying degrees, admittedly). Perhaps it's due to the choice of background colour for the art: black, as opposed to the elegant white of the previous DVD release.
I reckon Warners went for black so that people wouldn't get confused between the new and old versions. The FMJ helmet design wouldn't stand out nearly as much, so Warners got some schmoe to bang out a quick 'Nam photoshop job instead.

So 2001 and Clockwork Orange are R1,2,3,4 but The Shining is R1.

Probably because The Shining is the longer, US cut of the film.

Do we know what the framing for The Shining is yet ? It would be good if we get - but we won't - both the 4:3 and 16:9 prints.

Man, those caps are lovely. Shining looks great in 16:9, and (somewhat surprisingly) is showing noticeably more picture information on the left side of frame, with a tad more on the right too.
I really hope someone gets a peek at Lyndon and Lolita soon, as I'm dying to know whether they re-did those classics too.

I noticed that and it's the same with 2001. I did think the screens from A Clockwork Orange looked identical for the original DVD and the new release... still be getting it thought as I don't own it on DVD.
I can't wait for these DVDs!
Psycho
PS. I've never seen Lyndon and Lolita...

There was an interesting post about The Shining's aspect ratio on a US board here (scroll down to #21):
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=923852
Hope the link doesn't infringe DVD Forum netiquete
