Recommend me a 80s/90s US sitcom or dramedy!
Hi everyone
My recent TV diet has consisted of The Shield, Homicide and Buffy Season Six. So, naturally I’m in need of some cheering up.
I’m an easy laugh, so Friends is my favourite sitcom, with Seinfeld bringing up the rear. I know there are a lot of sitcoms and dramedys made around that era, and I have yet to venture any further than the two programmes above.
I’m looking for something that I can possibly hand off to my younger sister for her viewing pleasure, so I’m definitely looking for something more ‘broad’ than something smarter i.e. Arrested Development or CYE.
So I look to you guys to recommend me some (preferably long running) sitcoms/dramedys from that era that I can check out.
Thanks!

I always liked Everybody Loves Raymond, which actually ran from 1996 to 2005 over 9 seasons.
Nice, easy comedy....certainly nothing too smart or too cerebral.
Kevin.

Seinfeld
Frasier
Angel
The Wire (not strictly in your criteria but well worth it)
Cheers (filmed before a live studio audience)
Friends

Everything there. Cheers was probably the funniest u.s. comedy ever made.

Thanks for the suggestions - keep them coming!
Frasier, Raymond, Moonlighting and Married...With Children are all on the list...
Oh, and Angel is actually adding to my 'pain and misery' section at the moment through the plot in season 3, so I've got that covered!

the two you mentioned were both 90s but you've put 80s/90s as your heading so I'd go with:
Soap (but it may have been 70s, best soap opera **** take ever, still very funny now once you get into its style. Stars a young Billy Crystal)
Taxi (starred Christopher Lloyd, Andy Kaufman (if you've seen Man in the moon) who makes the comedy, and Danny DeVito)
Cosby Show (starring Bill Cosby of course, not rewatched it but DVD reviews are saying it holds up well to modern viewing, was very funny)
Fresh Prince of Bel Air (bought us Will Smith)
Cheers (already mentioned but it is a very funny series)

Family Ties? If you can find it anywhere. What about Home Improvements? I always had a soft spot for that.

I've always wanted to see Roseanne again. Although it seems to have been wiped of the face of the Earth

They did a US remake of Bottom !!!! ? Er read the thread title and remember we are not the 51st state !!!
I'd second Ally Mcbeal (9.99 a series) and add Eerie Indiana (9.99 the whole lot)
