They aren't zombies, strictly speaking, but righteous pedantry aside, Jim Mickle's gritty horror unleashes some moments of considerable bite. Mark Lee reviews....

It may be because this film was marketed to me a a zombie film but when I watched this movie over a year ago I found it to be a complete mess and one of the worst films I've seen in a long time, I can't see how anyone would give this a 7/10 but then I look at IMDb and it's currently on 5.7. Still, for me it was a shambles, but it may be as I was expecting zombies and all I got was rat people.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I actually thought this was OK considering the relatively low budget (which I know you have mentioned).

My main gripe was that for a horror film, the horror wasn't done slickly enough - presumably due to budgetary constraints. It scored points for me because the director spent time building the tension, and paid a lot of respect to his characters by giving them distinct personalities, and challenges.

Maybe I need to give it another viewing, but there was something I liked about the spirit of the film.

Mark.

Good Review even though we think you've been tooo generous to this film Mark :-)

You are right, but I think both ben and I found that cover and title change does the film no favours at all and it struggles to recover from that which in our case it did not.

At least you you enjoyed it somewhat which helps when reviewing stuff!

Exactly, the main problem for me was I was expecting a zombie film and didn't get that, had I known it wasn't zombies I probably wouldn't have watched it, so I guess the studio's ploy worked in getting me to see it, even if I didn't like it.

I guess this is the price we pay in a time where zombies are one of the "in" things.

Thanks Shawn, maybe in retrospect 7 was a bit generous, though I do have a soft spot for independent filmmaking and the challenges these guys can be up against.

I agree wholeheartedly with you both about the marketing on the cover, trying to sell us zombies which aren't zombies, and even changing the name of the film to lead us to believe the film is something it isn't. I feel patronised by this - as a viewing public, we have more about us than to simply choose films with blatant titles.
