Been keeping an eye on VR for last few years and I think Santa may be bringing me one of these. Seems like a decent place to jump in when you don't have a decent PC or the cash for a more expensive headset, and want a decent refresh rate and resolution over psvr.
Given the tech onboard, the kit has to be a loss leader for FB (mandatory comment about requiring a fb account here) .
So, for someone who has NEVER used VR, what's the best first game to try in Christmas morning for that wow factor? Don't say Half Life Alyx ..
There are a bunch of demos/tutorials built in to the Quest 2 - well worth playing through them to get used to VR, and although simple they really demonstate the immersion of VR
In terms of buying a few games I'd recommend the following:
Beat Saber - amazing
Pistol Whip - rhythm based John Wick sim and really fun
Half Life Alyx really is incredible but you might want to get your VR legs before trying this
Santa is also getting me a Quest so Ill be keeping a keen eye on this thread, I was already planning on getting Beat Sabre and Pistol Whip, any of the educational apps worth looking at? as my son will definitely want to have a play.

It's like a puzzle game. There's a bit of a story but basically you are trying to find all the pets that are hidden on an island floating in front of you. You can turn the island round and poke various bits to solve the puzzles.
The only problem with it is that it isn't "room scale" so you can't walk around the island, you use the controllers to turn it (reach out, grab, and turn it like it was on a vertical spit).
I was looking at the Oculus Quest 2 but i've opted for PSVR for the time being. Better games library than if you're solely using OQ2 standalone. I've never used VR either so if I like it i'll probably get the OCQ 2 when I get a good PC for PC based VR.
Lots to look forward to in the VR space, Apple are bringing out a headset in 2022 and the new Snapdragon 888 chip is out next year that powers mobile phone flagships (and will end up in some VR headset most likely, OQ3?)
Check out Superhot, Drop Dead Dual Strike (epsecially the horde mode you can do with a mate) and the paintball mini-game in RecRoom (it's free).
Also, Population One has released recently if you like Battle Royale. I was hoping it was going to be great, but it hasn't grabbed me like I was hoping it would.
Myst is now out on Quest. Be interesting to see how this is having loved it as a 12 year old. Never got very far though in those pre internet walkthrough days!
