'The Godfather' trilogy, confirmed (U.S. BD)
Oh, yeah...
September 23rd is confirmed for both BD and SD, stand-alone (SD only?) and boxes for both. The link below leads to details. I'm not sure about region locking.

Wonderful news. The newly restored versions will shine in HD, although I'm not sure that they'll be to the taste of some of our regular contributors here.

Not a fan in the slightest but it's great that older films are getting a proper restoration. I'm more interested in the restoration process itself than the film.

Fantastic news. The DVD's picture quality was always pretty bad. These are surely must-buys. $120 is a bit high though - still I reckon this set will be discounted quite heavily - it's bound to be a top seller.

Yay! Finally announced, I was concerned about it not making it this year but glad it has!

Here's a link to a similar announcement thread over at the Home Theater Forum, where Robert Harris comments briefly on the nature of the restoration process.
If this link doesn't lead directly to it, the post of interest is post #24.

Blimey, that's a fair bit cheaper than my current customs-free pre-order. Most of the time Axel are a lot more expensive. I've said elsewhere that these are worth every penny, but I'm not gonna shun an £8 saving. Cheers!

Wowzers - the UK version of this is now up for pre-order for just £34.99 at Play. It should be identical to the US set (give or take a few extra language tracks) and at that price it's a steal.

Nice one, I reserved from ordering the US at the Rip off asking price (even for my favourite film of all time). Ordered the UK from Play
Thanks!

It's encouraging to see reasonable UK prices for the likes of this and Band of Brothers.

Indeed, there have been quite a few titles just released/coming soon where the UK release is significantly cheaper than the US release.
Makes a very pleasant change.

Yeah, I were just thinking that about our BD prices. I've pre-ordered the UK versions of several upcoming releases like Iron Man and Indy too, as there's no difference between the UK price and what the importers are charging.
The cost of catalogue stuff will take a little longer to drop to US levels (picked up Eraser for £12) but it's getting there - and about time too.

Anyone have any decent Aussie sites for BD? Just checked ezydvd.com.au for this, and it's sitting at a pre-order price of $130
