To be fair he left Chelsea to join an MLS team and got loaned to City! I'm a Chelsea fan and still consider him a legend and wish him the best wherever he plays.

Can't understand Chelsea not offering him a new contract but I'm guessing £160k a week to warm the bench isn't a good return?

Ah, I understand more what you mean now - thought you meant his reputation in football, not just with the Chelsea fans...

Although I do get the feeling Chelsea fans (on the whole - all clubs have their share of tools) still love the guy for what he did for them?

He didn't want to leave after all, and wasn't really given the option to stay? I could understand some feeling uncomfortable with the current situation though, and perhaps thinking less of him as a result.

I consider Lampard has done enough to be considered a legend - not a City legend, but a Premier League one? Yes, I'd say so...

Think it's harsh to class him as a mercenary - he's just playing at the top level for as long as he can. Don't see much wrong with it.

Great second half against Sunderland especially after the dull first half.

Lampard continues to impress and could have got himself a hatrick. Yaya got an absolute screamer which lift the net and the entire stadium. The second goal was a lovely finish which would normally have been goal of the game. 2 ex City players scored against us and Pants in net was easily man of the match.

Joint top of the league and the way we have caught up Chelsea and qualified for the last 16 in Europe has rounded off a near perfect year.

Be very happy if we sign Bony. Four completely different striking options then in Aguero, Bony, Jovetic and Dzeko!

Can see an Aguero/Bony partnership being exceptionally hard to defend against?

Unbelievable your lot are signing Bony. Absolutely livid. FFP clearly not working.

Well UEFA penalised us in the summer and now we're in clear profit so I don't know what your issue is. As far as I remember, we sold a few players in the summer (including Negredo for around £25M).

Interesting that we'd sign a striker who is in the ACN for the next few weeks, so I guess we're taking a long-term view.

Anyway, it'll probably allow you lot to a free run at Draxler now so you should be happy.

If Manchester City buy him it's all well within FFP.

Not sure of your point? We don't have a transfer ban?

With Negredo being sold at £25m and not replaced our net spend in the summer was something like £10m of the £49m the sanctions allowed us to spend? (there or thereabouts - not an accountant)

We're also selling Nastasic and will get around £10m for him. Even assuming we pay £30m for Bony (we won't) and that we pay it all at once (we won't) that still leaves us £19m to play with in January before any other sales we may make

And as we have no sanctions whatsoever next year, I suspect you should avoid reading the papers when the summer window is open

AFCON is done and dusted by the 8th February, and that's even presuming Ivory Coast make the final which they might not. Usually transfer window business is done towards the end of the window, so we'll maybe only miss a week or two from him?

Imagine it will be done while he's in Abu Dhabi this week. Exciting.

Exactly, £25m for Negredo, £25m + £5m addons for Bony. so pretty much straight swap.

plus with incomings/outgoings we still had 10/15m to spend within any FFP constraints.

if this makes you Livid, It will be entertaining to see what happens if we break the bank and Sign Messi in the summer like all the rumors suggest

You don't have the Negredo money yet though, do you? I thought it was a year long loan with compulsory purchase?

Plus, the fee is €27 million, which is closer to £21 million. #nitpicking

Yep, but as long as the money comes for the next set of books it will be fine.

I'll admit im a bit surprised by the Bony move tho, yeah 2 out of 3 of our strikers that seem to be made of glass but in normal terms Pozo was doing ok as a 4th striker, if he had another striker to play off of he would have done a lot better.

Surely the main worry is City paying £30M for a player who was available for roughly half that 4 months ago and has regressed since then ( as well as having 4 months less on his contract ). City going back to inflating transfer fees again.

I thought it was Chelsea he was linked with?

Bony for £30m would be an insane piece of business for City. He's ok and potentially, with better players around him, might improve....but £30m!? I'd rather have Welbeck.

The Manchester City Thread 2014/2015

So you think Bony is a better player than those below him on that list?

No not all but for a striker the number of goals you score is the ultimate Yardstick.

He's better than Dzeko, Gerrard, Lukaku and Adebayor IMO.

I think I read he has the best goals/mins ratio this season too.

I disagree. I'd say Aguero and Surarez, and Rooney are all light years ahead of Bony.

Yeah and their goal tally would be higher if not for injury , number of games played and playing as a midfielder.

Don't think too many managers would rather have Wellbeck over Bony when they need goals.
